SOPHIE E. McDONOUGH
IDAHO FALLS, ID -- Sophia Elsie “Sophie” Haller Adams McDonough, 85, of Idaho Falls, recently living in Fairfield, California, died September 12, 2001, at the North Bay Hospital in Fairfield.
She was born June 13, 1916, at Grandin, Missouri, to John Haller and Anna Maria Mary Schunter Haller. She moved with her family when she was 9 months old to Roberts, Idaho. When she was 5 years old her father passed away and her mother sold the dry farm and moved to Idaho Falls.
After her marriage to Art Adams in 1932 she was a farmer's wife and lived and raised her four children in the New Sweden area until her divorce in 1964. Following her divorce she moved to Las Vegas for a few years and then to St. Louis, Missouri, before returning to Idaho Falls. She recently moved to Fairfield, California to live with her granddaughter, Camille Gaudet.
She married Lester John McDonough November 20, 1972, at Spokane, Washington. She has been a homemaker and mother. She also worked as a saleslady at American Fur and The I.D. Store, was a hostess at the Maru Room Hotel Sahara in Las Vegas, at the Revolving Restaurant in St. Louis, Missouri (a restaurant overlooking Busch Stadium), and was a Hostess at Smitty's Family Restaurant and at Jolly Roger's in Idaho Falls. In her later years she was a Welcome Wagon Lady and worked for Challenge and Western Dairies as a demonstrator. Her husband passed away August 24, 1996.
She was a member of the Methodist Church, where she served as a teacher and as Sunday School Superintendent. She was a member of the New Sweden Grange Farmer's Wives Club, and at one time was a member of the Idaho Falls Music Club.

Pleasant, MIStepdaughter: Connie Carlson, Idaho Falls, IDBrother: Carl Haller, Idaho Falls, IDSister: Louise Drugge, Yuma, AZSister: Nellie Heiser, San Leandro, CASister: Helen Crandall, Salt Lake City, UT 29 Grandchildren & 42 Great GrandchildrenShe was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, Art and Les, a son, Richard Adams, two brothers, Raymond and Fred, a sister, Anne, a grandson, two step daughters, and two step grandsons.
Funeral Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 18, 2001, at the Wood Chapel of the Pines. The family will visit with friends for one hour prior to the services on Tuesday at Wood Funeral Home. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery under the direction of Wood Funeral Home.
The family requests donations be directed to the relief of the victims of New York & The Pentagon.
