BILL STOKES
IDAHO FALLS, ID -- Shirley Wixom "Bill" Stokes, 80, of Ammon, died July 26, 2007, at his home.
He was born August 17, 1926, at Franklin, Idaho, to Wilford Stokes and Ella Nora Wixom Stokes. He attended schools in Franklin and graduated from Preston High School. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II as a Corporal, during which time he married Evelyn House. They were later divorced.
After his Honorable Discharge from the Army Air Corps he started his career with United Air Lines in 1952, as a baggage handler and soon was promoted to mechanic - during this time he continued his flying lessons. He was promoted to the cockpit in 1955, finishing his career as a Captain of the DC-10 airliner. On December 10, 2002, he married Martha Ann Scherr in Idaho Falls. He has also lived in Sunnyvale, California; Seattle, Washington; and Jerome, Idaho.
He enjoyed ham radio, cars, photography and organized the Sunnyvale, CA symphony orchestra where he was 1st Chair Violin for many years.

Sister: Phyllis (Henry) Clarke, Sandy, UT
Brother: Joseph (Carol) Stokes, Roy, UT
12 Grandchildren & 10 Great Grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Lyman, Merl and Paul.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 31, 2007, at the Wood Funeral Home, 273 N. Ridge, with Joseph Stokes officiating. Military Honors will be performed by the Bonneville County Veterans Memorial Team. The family will visit with friends Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday for one hour prior to the services, both at Wod Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Franklin Cemetery.
