Shirley Roberts returned to her Heavenly Father on December 26, 2016, after a prolonged illness.
Shirley was born August 23,1932, in Poplar Idaho, the fourth child of Albert Wheeler and Marcellene Jenson Wheeler. She grew up with Victor and Margaret on the family farm in Poplar. Her brother, Max, had passed in infancy. Soon came Dick, she enjoyed being a big sister. The family moved from Poplar to Ririe and lived in town thereafter. After her brother Victor passed, her parents adopted his children, Vicky and Randy, increasing her siblings.
She graduated from Ririe High School and went on to Ricks College, and then to nursing school at LDS Hospital on the river. She enjoyed being a registered nurse in Idaho, New Hampshire, and Utah.
Shirley married Knollan Cleverly in 1953. To this union were born four children, Jim, Craig, Shawn, and Scott. Knollan passed away in 1962. Shirley loved being a mother to her kids. She married Don Roberts in 1965, and they had a daughter, Shirley. They later divorced.
Shirley was a hard worker and taught this to her children, who always tried to make her proud. She lost one son in 2015 and one grandson died in 1991. She had nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Shirley is survived by Craig (Jackie) Cleverly of Hickory N.C., Shawn (Michelle) Cleverly, Scott (Peggy) Cleverly of Idaho Falls, Shirley (Neal, deceased) Thrailkill of Idaho Falls, 8 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
She is survived by Margaret (Zay, deceased) Treasure of Rigby, Randy (Judy) Wheeler of Rigby, Dick (Larea) Wheeler of Utah, and Vicky (Bob) McKinney of Shelley.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Max and Victor; son, Jim; son-in-law, Neal; and grandson, Steven.
The family would like to say a special thanks to Hands of Hope Hospice for their unending and tireless work with her and for never giving up on her and her family!
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 7, 2016, at Ririe-Shelton Cemetery. The family will visit with friends on Friday from 6:30-8 p.m. at Wood Funeral Home, 273 N. Ridge Avenue.
