Shirley Ann Johnson Oden, 71, of Idaho Falls, passed away September 12, 2014, at her home surrounded by all the people she loved. She was under the care of One Source Hospice.
Shirley was born March 20, 1943, in Gainesville, Texas. Her parents were Keith and Dorthy Johnson. She married the true love of her life, Edgar Oden, on August 17, 1963, in Pocatello, Idaho. They made their home in Idaho Falls, Idaho. They spent 51 amazing years of marriage together. In those 51 years, they were blessed with four beautiful children, Rick, Tammy, Jackie, and Mike, ten grandchildren, and one great granddaughter, with one on the way.
She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She was also a member of Eagles Lodge #983. She enjoyed traveling and spending time with her family.
Shirley battled many different health issues through the last years of her life. She beat cervical cancer and fought through multiple heart procedures, always amazing us with her strength and determination to get through them. Her admirable strength and love will be something left behind and engraved in all those that loved her. Her great sense of humor could put a smile on anyone’s face. She was always there for her family in any hard times.
Shirley and her husband spent many years managing Christmas tree lots all over Southern California for their great friends, who became family, Doug and Deidra Bennett. Christmas time was the highlight of her year, a great tradition for her family, and a great escape from the cold weather. After the Christmas tree lot was over, she loved vacationing on the California coast and couldn’t wait to hit the highway and spend a few months in Las Vegas. She loved traveling in their beautiful motor home, camping, and all different kinds of crafts.
Shirley found out she had liver cancer in February of this year. She fought very hard to beat it but unfortunately, the cancer became too aggressive.
She is survived by her husband, Edgar Oden of Idaho Falls; her four children, Rick Oden (Shelly), Tammy Oden (Ryan), Jackie Sessions, and Michael (Aleshia) Oden, all of Idaho Falls; her three sisters, Diane Moore, Bonnie Bateman, and Jody Ceynar, all of Pocatello; her brother, Eddie Johnson of Boise; along with her ten grandchildren, Matthew, Sarah, Aja, Rick, Jesse, Josh, Tyler, Shae, Jordyn, and Ceanna; and her great grandchild Taybrie.
