Shirley Hendricks Williams

Shirley Hendricks Williams, 88, passed away on December 14, 2022, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, from natural causes.

She was born in Hibbard, Idaho, on June 1, 1934, to Kenneth Josiah and Ruth May Davies Hendricks, she was the oldest of seven children.

She attended Hibbard Elementary School and graduated from Madison High School in Rexburg, Idaho, in 1952. She worked as a telephone operator in Idaho Falls and later as a dietary aide for many years at Hibbard Elementary, Kennedy Elementary School, and Madison Memorial Hospital, all in Rexburg. She lived her entire life in the Rexburg area.

She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She married Glen C. Williams on November 18, 1953, in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple, and they made their home in Hibbard, Idaho. They liked to camp, fish, and take horses on pack trips. They had six daughters, who she raised on her own after Glen died in 1971. Shirley worked hard to see that her girls never went without, and never took a handout.

She was a skilled seamstress and quilter. She sewed the girls' clothes and doll clothes, which she sold for Christmas money. She later sold her quilts. She also helped to raise her grandchildren, her great-grandchildren and her great-great-grandchildren. In recent years, she enjoyed traveling with her family. She was able to go to Montana annually to visit her daughters and grandchildren, to Disneyland with some of her grandkids, and on a few cruises with her daughters.

She lived her life with much integrity. She had a rare quality of never complaining. She did not want to be a burden to anyone. She was very caring and willing to help anyone who needed it and is truly an example to her children and grandchildren.

Shirley is survived by her daughters, Nancy Petrie, Barbara Williams and Julie Landon; six grandchildren, Angil Mann, Darrick Glen Merrill, ShaLayne Hill, Amanda Petrie, Beau Landon, and Kim Landon; seven great-grandchildren, Alley Carpenter Gallup, Hadley Hill, Jaden Hill, Apryle Sumida, Haiden Sumida, Ruth Myra Sumida, Lena Landon; and two great-great-grandsons, Ryder Richards and Ridge Gallup.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Glen C. Williams; three daughters, Gwena Mann, Debbie Squires, and Peggy Williams; her parents; a sister; and two brothers.

At her request, no services will be held.
