Shirley Laree Barrus Birkhead, 84, of Idaho Falls, Idaho passed away on June 1, 2014, at her home. She was born September 28, 1929, in Pocatello, Idaho to Benjiman Harrison Barrus and Jesse Mildred Black Barrus. The family moved to Idaho Falls where she graduated from Ammon High School. She continued her education by attended Ricks College and the LDS Nursing School where she received her Bachelor’s degree in Nursing. She started working at the LDS Hospital in 1950. On July 3, 1953, she married Roy Hamilton Birkhead in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. She was a devoted mother and homemaker and worked for many years as a Registered Nurse. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and as a young women served as a missionary in the Northern States Mission. She loved music and served as a music leader in almost every ward in which she lived. Shirley loved to travel and had visited the East Coast, many Church History Sites, and the Holy Land. Survivors are: Husband: Roy H. Birkhead, Idaho Falls, ID Brother: Harrison (Roma) Barrus, Cedar City, UT Sister: Rosalyn (Guy) Sharp, Rexburg, ID Sister: Carol (Steve) Kimber, St. George, UT One grandchild and three great grandchildren She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Russell Roy Birkhead; and a sister, Charlotte Heaton. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday, June 5, 2014, at the Idaho Falls LDS Willow Creek Ward (6925 North 15th East). The family will visit with friends on Wednesday from 6:30-8 p.m. at Wood Funeral Home East Side (963 S. Ammon) and on Thursday from 10-10:45 a.m. prior to the services at the church. Burial will be in Ammon Cemetery.
