Shirley (Margaret) Ann Roberts, 93, of Idaho Falls, passed away October 5, 2025, at her home. She was under the loving care of her immediate family and Brio Hospice.
Shirley was born February 21, 1932, in Hygiene, Colorado, to Clarence William Periman and Pauline Margaret Weishaupl Periman. She grew up and attended schools in Longmont, Colorado, and graduated from Longmont High School.
Shirley then moved to Denver to work in a local bank. Here, she met the love of her life, and on July 14, 1956, she married Duane Clarence Roberts in Denver. Shirley and Duane later moved to Ontario, Oregon, and then to Idaho Falls, ID, where they made their forever home and raised their two children. Shirley loved working and continued work as an administrator for local banks for many years, and later, for the Idaho Falls Chamber of Commerce. Shirley was quite self-sufficient and enjoyed learning and applying new skills. She took a Powder-Puff Mechanics course at the local vocational college, and she could be seen in the front yard with the car hood up applying her newly acquired knowledge. Whenever anything broke, whether it was a lamp, or the washing machine, Shirley was off to the library to check out a book that might teach her how to fix it.
She was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church and was a woman of great faith. Shirley loved the outdoors. As a young child, she was fortunate to spend a few summers on a 'Dude Ranch', where her mother worked as a cook and housekeeper. This experience fostered Shirley's love of adventure, horses, and gardening.
As a mother, Shirley tried to instill these passions in her children. She took them on countless summer hikes, gave them skiing lessons, helped them plant vegetable gardens, and sent them to scout camp. Shirley served many years as a Girl Scout troop leader, even serving as the regional Girl Scout Cookie Chairman one year. The Roberts' living room was stacked to the ceiling with hundreds of cases of cookies.
Shirley was a sports fanatic when it came to supporting her son's many athletic activities. She was so enthusiastic, in fact, that she often had to watch Little League baseball, Grid Kid football, and Mighty Mite hockey games from the comfort of her car, in case her vocal enthusiasm got out of control.
Shirley and Duane were blessed with three grandchildren. As a Granny, she took great pride in all of their sporting endeavors, never missing a hockey game or an opportunity to brag about a volleyball game.
In retirement, Shirley enjoyed creating and pruning her many flowerpots and tomato plants every year. She never missed fuchsia Saturday at Fred Meyers to jump-start the spring planting season.
Shirley is survived by her daughter, Janis (Steve) Sherick of Idaho Falls; her grandsons, Robert Sherick (Kindra), and Dylan (Camille) Sherick, both of Idaho Falls; and granddaughter, Sydney (Wade) Harrison of Lyons, CO.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Duane Roberts; son, Greg Roberts; father, Clarence Periman; mother, Pauline James; brother, Ray Periman; and sister, Eloise James.
Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, October 23, 2025, at Christ the King Catholic Church, 1690 East 17th Street. Shirley and Duane's cremains will be interred together at the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery in Blackfoot, ID.
