Sherwin Russell "Ike" Rigby, 68, of Ammon, Idaho, passed away January 10, 2017, at his home.
Sherwin was born August 14, 1948, in Rexburg, Idaho, to Rulon Eugene Rigby and Zola Carlson Rigby. He grew up and attended schools in St. Anthony and graduated from South Fremont High School. He served in the United States Army as a Demolition Expert with the 116th Combat Engineers in Vietnam 1968-1969.
In 1968, he married Rene Aslett in St. Anthony. To this union were born four children, Jeff, Selena, Jared, and Sumerli. Sherwin and Rene made their home in St. Anthony where he worked as a logger and lumber manager for Idaho Forest Industries. They were later divorced and remained lifelong friends.
Sherwin had his pilot’s license and enjoyed taking his children and loved ones to explore the blue skies. His time spent with his grandchildren was very special to him, they referred to him as their "Papa". He loved using his talents building and fixing anything to help everyone who came in contact with him. Sherwin found joy in hosting get-togethers for family and friends. In true form Sherwin rescued a cat he later named Scratch. These two became partners in crime. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Sherwin is survived by his mother, Zola Rigby of Egin, ID; daughter, Selena (Chris) Earley of Idaho Falls, ID; son, Jared (Tami) Rigby of Idaho Falls, ID; daughter, Sumerli (Jason) Lynch of Idaho Falls, ID; brother, Darwin "Pete" Rigby of Idaho Falls, ID; sister, Julie (Dennis) Murri of St. Anthony, ID; sister, Mickie Rigby of Idaho Falls, ID; sister, Tami (Brian) Warner of Blackfoot, ID; brother, Kelly Rigby of Egin, ID; sister, Fawn (Don) Whittaker of Idaho Falls, ID; sister, Robin (Brent) Klein of St. Anthony, ID; brother, James Rigby of Egin, ID; and grandchildren, Hayden, Justin, Taylor, Connor, and Jaylee.
He was preceded in death by his father, Rulon Eugene Rigby, son, Jeff Russell Rigby, grandson, Killian Russell Rigby, brother, Kevin L. Rigby, and sister-in-law, Alice W. Rigby.
Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 14, 2017, at the Egin Bench LDS Ward, 1633 East 400 North in St. Anthony, with Bishop LaVar Hunter officiating. The family will visit with friends from 10:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. prior to services at the church. Graveside services will be conducted at the Ammon Cemetery immediately following the funeral.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Sherwin's name to Wood Funeral Home, P.O. Box 51434, Idaho Falls, ID 83405. Military Rites will be performed by the Bonneville County Veterans Memorial Team and Idaho Honor Guard.
