Sherry Scoresby

Sherry Mae Hansen Scoresby, 72, of Iona, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 7, 2012 at her home following a courageous battle with liver and bone cancer. She was under the care of her loving family and Creekside Home Health & Hospice. Sherry was born February, 6, 1939 in Tetonia, Idaho, to Martel Leslie Hansen and Mae Belle Henderson Hansen. She attended local schools and graduated from Teton Valley High School. She worked at the Utah State Capitol building for five years before returning to Idaho Falls to work at the then, INL. She served an LDS mission to San Paulo, Brazil. Following her mission, she returned to work at the INL. She married Charles Alma Scoresby on November 10, 1966 in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. They made their home on the Scoresby family farm east of Iona, where they farmed and ranched and taught their family the value of hard work. Sherry worked shoulder to shoulder with her husband and children and enjoyed being a stay-at-home mother. Sherry was a remarkable woman who not only lovingly cared for a disabled daughter, but at the age of 60 welcomed an infant into her home. Charles and Sherry legally adopted and were sealed to their beautiful daughter, Linda, in 2009. As an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Sherry held many callings. She will be remembered best for her service as Young Women’s President, in the Relief Society presidency, and as the Compassionate Service Leader. She also served in the nursery and put together the ward bulletin for several years. Sherry enjoyed gardening, cooking, camping, crocheting, and doing genealogy. She especially loved children and cherished each of her grandchildren. Survivors include: Husband: Charles A. Hammond of Idaho Falls ID Sister: Linda Ellen Lewis of Idaho Falls, ID Brother: Stephen John (Linda) Hansen of Tetonia, ID Sister: Lyla Fern (Darrell) Howell of Rigby, ID 15 Grandchildren: William, Johanna, Jacqueline, Spencer, Emily, Kayla, Kourtney, Jacob, Kaliann, Evan, Blake, Addison, Timmy, Todd and Kade. She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Myrna Belle Fredrickson, Joyce L. Waggoner, Karen V. Martin, Teresa M. Hansen; and brother, Leslie Charles Hansen. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 10, 2012 at the Iona LDS 2nd Ward, 7555 N. 55 E. with Bishop Byard Cox officiating. The family will visit with friends on Monday evening from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Wood Funeral Home East Side, 963 S. Ammon Rd. and on Tuesday from 10 to 10:45 a.m. prior to services at the church. Interment will be in the Iona Cemetery.
