Sherry Ellen (Ellison) Hammer

Sherry Ellen Ellison Hammer was born February 23, 1955, in Idaho Falls, Idaho. She was the daughter of Hodge H. Ellison and Janet Sudweeks. She passed away on September 26, 2023, at Lincoln Court Retirement Community under the care of Aspen Home Health and Hospice, in Idaho Falls, Idaho.

She was the first of three children. She grew up and attended schools in Idaho Falls, Idaho, and graduated from Bonneville High School in 1973. While in high school, she was a member of the drill team, “The Honey Bees”.

In January of 1974, she married Gerald Hammer; they later divorced. Sherry attended ISU and then married Stephen Browning on August 4, 1979. She was the proud mother of two sons, Timothy and Nathan Browning. She loved being involved in anything her boys were involved in; school, cub scouts, etc. She loved to decorate cakes for their birthdays as well as other special occasions for family members. She was divorced from Stephen when the boys were teenagers and returned to school receiving her degree in accounting.

In May of 2014, Sherry remarried and was sealed in the Idaho Falls Temple to her true love Gerald (Gerry) Hammer. They had a few good years before she exhibited signs of dementia. Gerry took loving care of her until it was necessary for her to receive professional assistance.

She was an amazing teacher of Country Western dancing. She loved to walk, read, and play bunko with friends. Sherry was so kind and considerate of others and was a true friend to those around her. Even while struggling with her disease and not being able to recall those that helped her, she always remembered to say, “Thank you!”

Sherry was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She loved her primary class and helping with many other activities.

Sherry is survived by her husband, Gerald "Gerry" Hammer of Ucon, Idaho; her sons, Timothy Browning of Queens, New York, and Nathan Browning of Medford, Oregon; brother, Hodge Kendall Ellison of Idaho Falls, Idaho; sister, Carol Ann Ellison of Idaho Falls, Idaho; and half sister, Diana (Bill) Blakely of  Idaho Falls, Idaho.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral services will be held at 12 noon on Saturday, October 7, 2023, in the Ucon Ward, located at 10854 North 41 East, Ucon, Idaho, with Bishop Hondo Hudman officiating. The family will visit with friends from 11:00-11:45 a.m. prior to the services. Burial will be in the Ucon Cemetery.
