Sherman Lazell Norris Jr., 75, of Ammon, Idaho, passed away July 30, 2015, at his home after a lengthy illness. Sherman was born April 1, 1940, in Salt Lake City, UT, to Sherman Lazell Norris Sr. and Roxie Murel Mortensen Norris. He grew up and attended schools in Utah and graduated from Jordan High School. He served as a PFC in the US Army where he earned his marksman badge and carbide bar launching test missiles in White Sands. Later, he also attended LDS Business College in Salt Lake City. On June 20, 1963, he married Eileen Anne Barton in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. Sherm and Eileen lived in the Salt Lake City valley for many years before moving to Idaho. Sherm worked for a time with the Boy Scouts of America in Twin Falls, and the US Forest service, as an Appraiser in the Bonneville County Assessor's office, and finally as a Safety Compliance Officer for the State of Idaho. He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints serving in various capacities including, Cub Scouts, Elder's Quorum Presidency, Sunday School Presidency and High Priests. Sherm enjoyed restoring old cars, and organized several area car shows including the first car show still held annually for the Idaho Falls Duck Race. During his free time you would find him gardening at home, or hunting, fishing, and camping with his family. He especially enjoyed playing church basketball and church softball. He was an excellent bowler. His favorite pastime of all was the time he spent being a coach for little league baseball. Sherman is survived by his wife of 52 years, Eileen Norris of Ammon, ID; son, Mike (Laura) Norris of Ammon, ID; son, Gary (Carolyn) Norris of Orem, UT; daughter, Shereen (David) Gonzalez of Ammon, ID; son, Tony (Jenn) Norris of Elephant Butte, NM; daughter, Lisa(Russ) Rhudy of Idaho Falls, ID; sister, Bobbie (Vern) Christensen of Ivins, UT. He is also survived by 17 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren (soon to be 12). Additionally, Sherm and Eileen helped raise over 30 foster children through the years. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Shannon Norris Daniel, his parents Sherman and Roxie Norris, his brother, Henry Norris and his sister, Donna Harding. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 5, 2015, at Wood Funeral Home East Side, 963 South Ammon Road, with Bishop Eric Bodily officiating. The family will visit with friends Tuesday from 6:30-8:00 p.m. and Wednesday from 10-10:45 a.m. prior to services, both visitations at Wood East. Burial will be in the Ammon Cemetery. Military Rites will be performed by the Bonneville County Veterans Memorial Team and Idaho Honor Guard.
