Sheldon E. Empey - 09/17/2001 Sheldon E. Empey - 09/17/2001 SHELDON E. EMPEY IDAHO FALLS, ID -- Sheldon E. Empey, 83, of Idaho Falls, died September 15, 2001, at his home. He was under the care of Hospice of Eastern Idaho. He was born November 24, 1917 in Ammon, the third son of A. Ernest Empey and Olive A. Mitchell Empey. He graduated from Ammon High School. He served as a Platoon Sergeant and Tank Commander with Company A 772nd Tank Battalion in World War II. He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for meritorious action in France, Germany, and Austria. He married Fern Corrice. They were later divorced. He married Irene Surerus on December 19, 1956 in Englewood, California. He worked as a body technician and mechanic in the Idaho Falls area and at Bowl-ero Lanes until his retirement in 1979. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was a member of the American Legion Post #56. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and camping. He was a dedicated bowler and in 1984 was honored by being inducted into the Idaho Falls Bowling Hall of Fame. Surviving are:Wife: Irene Empey, Idaho Falls, IDSon: S. (Karen) Empey, Idaho Falls, IDDaughter: Claudia (Tom) Butts, Challis, IDBrother: Farren Empey , Idaho Falls, IDSister: Twila Suitter, Idaho Falls, IDSister: Leah Molen, Idaho Falls, IDSister: Lois (Lee) Shelton, Idaho Falls, ID 9 Grandchildren and 8 Great Grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Norma Faust; and 3 brothers, Ruland, Worth A. and Melvin M. Empey. Funeral Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, September 20, 2001, at the Wood Chapel of the Pines, with Robert P. Evans officiating. The family will meet with friends on Wednesday from 7-8:30 p.m. and for one hour prior to the services on Thursday, both at Wood Funeral Home. Burial will be in Ammon Cemetery under the direction of Wood Funeral Home. Military Rites will be performed by the Bonneville County Veterans Team.
