Sharon Young Winther, 77, of lona, Idaho, passed away October 6, 2015, at The Hospice Home in Idaho Falls after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was under the care of Hospice of Eastern Idaho.
Sharon was born April 12, 1938, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, to Vern Willard Young and Vida Thornton Young. She grew up and attended schools in Shelley, Idaho, and graduated from Shelley High School.
Sharon has always loved animals and especially horses. As a child she enjoyed helping her dad on the farm. She even learned to harness the horses.
On July 15,1956, she married Harold Winther at her mother's home in Shelley. Sharon and Harold have been inseparable throughout their married life. "Always together, never apart" is a phrase that truly describes them. They have lived in the Iona area and at their ranch in Dehlin, Idaho. Whatever they did, they did together. She was a key part in all the operations of the farm and ranch and also in the snowmobile business they operated for twelve years. In earlier years Sharon worked as a bookkeeper for several businesses.
Sharon had four older half-siblings, of which three have preceded her in death, a half-brother, Duwayne, resides in Colorado. She was also preceded in death by her parents and a daughter, Cindy, who passed away in May 1994.
She is survived by her loving husband of 59 years, Harold Winther, of Iona. The family would like to thank the many doctors, nurses, friends, neighbors, family members, and the people from Hospice of Eastern Idaho, all who have so lovingly cared for her through her 28 plus years of battling cancer. Sharon will always be remembered by her sweet spirit and big smile. She will truly be missed.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, October 10, 2015, at Wood Funeral Home East Side, 963 South Ammon Road, with Bishop Randy Smith of the Iona LDS 1st Ward officiating. The family will visit with friends Friday from 6:00-7:30 p.m. and Saturday from 12:30-1:15 p.m., both times at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Ammon Cemetery.
