Sharon Aileen Jones

Our sweet and precious mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister, Sharon Aileen Jones, 87, passed away on August 9, 2025, at her home in Idaho Falls, Idaho.

She was born on February 16, 1938, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, to Leo Joseph and Burneice Irene Rasmussen. Mom grew up in Mud Lake, Idaho, until she was 6 years old, her family then moved to Idaho Falls, Idaho, following the death of her father. Later, her mother with the family married, Vernal Hansen. She was the second child of six children, and the only daughter. She attended school in Idaho Falls.

Sharon loved horses and was the War Bonnet Rodeo queen in her late teens. She was an avid animal lover and had many collies and pets in her lifetime. Following high school, Sharon married the love of her life, Norman Gene Jones, on May 12, 1956, in Pocatello, Idaho. They celebrated 62 years of marriage. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls Temple on June 17, 1965. They raised their family in Idaho Falls, Idaho, until 1967, when they moved to Roy, Utah, for Gene's work, where they bought a home and finished raising their children.

Sharon was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where she served faithfully in many callings. In 2007-2008, Gene and Sharon served a humanitarian mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Vientiane, Laos, where she taught English and helped distribute wheelchairs and neonatal life-saving kits, and also established water wells. This was an experience they both cherished. They loved missionary work and made lifelong friends.

Mom was an amazing artist and thoroughly enjoyed art, and received many honors with her artwork. She received a scholarship to the Los Angeles School of Art. Sharon also attended the Corcoran School of Art in Washington D.C. Her paintings were magnificent and are treasured by all of us.

Sharon was an excellent seamstress and ran a monogramming business for many years. She loved flowers and gardened throughout her life. She spent many hours cooking for her family. Her homemade cinnamon rolls, dinner rolls, and bread were the best anyone ever made.

Sharon completed a bachelor's degree from Weber State College in 1978. She was a teacher in the Davis, Utah, school district for 25 years and 1 year in Idaho Falls District 91. As a resource teacher, Sharon was a great blessing to many children, helping those who struggled to learn to read.

Gene and Sharon are the parents of seven children: Corrinne, Norman Gene Jr., Camille (Gary), Jeanie (Mark), David (Nancy), Stephen (Leesha), and Andrea (Greg).

Sharon is survived by 6 children, and 2 brothers, Gary Rasmussen and Ted Hansen; her 19 grandchildren, and 23 great-grandchildren.

Sharon was preceded in death by her husband, Norman Gene Jones; her parents, Leo and Burneice Rasmussen; her stepfather, Vernal Hansen; her son, Norman Gene Jr.; and her 3 siblings, Mick Rasmussen, Josh Rasmussen, and David Hansen.

Thanks to mom's care givers over the past 5 years for their kindness, service, and care.
