Sarah LaVern Moser Maughan, 83, of Idaho Falls, passed away Wednesday, November 23, 2016, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center from complications of congestive heart failure and chronic kidney disease.

Sarah was born October 7, 1933, in Smithfield, Utah, to Vernon Gilbert Moser and Alta Higginson Moser. She graduated from North Gem High School in Bancroft, Idaho. She continued her education at Brigham Young University where she studied music.

She married Donal R. Maughan on September 25, 1953, in the LDS Temple in Logan, Utah. They made their home in Idaho Falls, Idaho, where she was a piano and vocal teacher for several years. She played the piano and sang with several retirement centers and rest homes in the area including the Good Samaritan Center. Sarah worked at the election polls. She was a member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers.

As an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she served in various Stake and Ward callings, including Stake Music Director, chorister, organist, and Primary. She was currently Primary pianist. Sarah and Donal served as Temple workers in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple for many years.

Sarah enjoyed playing the clarinet, piano, and the organ. She loved traveling, dancing with Donal, solving crossword puzzles, putting together jigsaw puzzles, and most of all she enjoyed collecting various types of gum. She was known as the "Gum Lady." Her collection will be submitted to the Guinness Book of World Records for consideration. She especially loved her family and enjoyed visiting with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

The family wishes to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff on the 4th and 5th floors at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center for their kind and compassionate care.

Survivors include her son, Dale M. (Julie) Maughan of Provo, UT; daughter, Kristel (Clifford) Law of Idaho Falls, ID; daughter, Stephanie (Alan) Summers of Idaho Falls, ID; daughter, Bonnie Teen (Lane) Martin of Payson, UT; brother, Dennis (Deanne) Moser of Grace, ID; brother-in-law, Berniel (Janey) Maughan, sisters-in-law, DeAnn (Dell, deceased) Maughan, Clara Jean (Lynn) Bailey, LaRae (George) Millward, and Eileen Maughan; 14 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband and parents.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, November 26, 2016, at the Woodruff LDS Ward building, at 1660 12th Street. The family will visit with friends Friday from 6:30 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Wood Funeral Home East Side, 963 South Ammon Road, and Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. at the church prior to services. Burial will be in the Bancroft Cemetery.
