Click here to view Sara's service live Sara Cornelia Johnson Kirkus, 80, of Idaho Falls, passed away July 30, 2016, at her home. She was under the care of her loving family and Encompass Hospice and QualiCare Home Health. Sara was born December 12, 1935, in Porterdale, Georgia, to Earnest William Johnson and Nellie Ruth Jones Johnson. On September 27, 1952, she married Billy Ira Kirkus in Conyers, Georgia. To this union were born three daughters, Gwen, Judy, and Debbie. Sara and Bill made their home in Georgia. Sara was a wonderful seamstress. She sewed for many people around their small town and made all of her daughters’ wedding dresses, sewing on each tiny pearl one by one. Sara was a very accomplished cook; famous for her fried chicken, biscuits, cakes, and her sought-after homemade bread. She was a loving and devoted wife and mother, always putting the needs of her family first. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Sara is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, Bill Kirkus of Idaho Falls, ID; daughter, Gwen (Mark) Seguin of Alpharetta, GA; daughter, Judy Ann (Chuck) Shipp of Idaho Falls, ID; daughter, Debbie (Andrew) Shipp of Conyers, GA; brother, Horace Eugene (Nancy) Johnson of Covington, GA; grandchildren, Matthew Shipp of UT; Ashley (Drew) Denman of Watkinsville, GA; Paul (Valerie) Burke of Atlanta, GA; Abby (Scott) Eaton of Rigby, ID; David Burke of Washington, DC; Audrey (Geoffery) Zellers of Rexburg, ID; Garrett (Monica) Shipp of Palo Alto, CA; Scott (Lexie) Shipp of Rexburg, ID; Andrew Shipp of Arlington, VA; Samuel Shipp of Los Angeles, CA; and 12 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Jackie Alice Dean. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 6, 2016, at Wood Funeral Home East Side, 963 South Ammon Road, with Bishop Jim Hansen of the Ammon 27th Ward officiating. The family will visit with friends from 10:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. prior to services at the funeral home. Services will also be live streamed at www.woodfuneralhome.com. Burial will be in the Ammon Cemetery.
