Sally Ann Rose (Winder), age 78, lost her fight to cancer, surrounded by family at her daughter's home on September 7, 2025. She was under the care of family and One Source Hospice, as throughout her life, she left this world on her own terms, comfortably and peacefully.
Sally was second born and only daughter of Varcel and Gem Winder (Denning) on August 25, 1947, in Idaho Falls, Idaho. The family moved around for a while, then they settled back in Iona, Idaho, where they ended up bringing three more boys into the family. Sally grew up being her mom's (Gem) right-hand gal, taking care of household chores, cooking, and tending to her brothers. She accounts that some days it was a challenge keeping up with them, between feeding them, breaking up fights, and tending to wounds. She was also devoted to taking care of her cousins and learning the portions of Minute Rice. (Which she ate for days afterwards). She never regretted being there for her family; she took pride in it and spoke of it very fondly.
Sally graduated from Bonneville High School, Class of ‘66, then pursued her love for cosmetology by attending Vogue Beauty College. She loved going to the Pumice Pits in Iona, dancing and hanging out with her friends to tell ghost stories, share beauty tips, and flirt with the Navy boys.
She met Alan Rose throughout these adventures, and they were married on November 4, 1969. She was 22, beginning her next adventure, which blessed her with Brandy Rose (Ghan) in 1970 and Deborah Rose (Kremin) in 1976. In 1978, she was further blessed with guardianship of her niece Stephanie Winder born in 1977, whom she raised as her own.
She returned to school at EITC, becoming a nutrition specialist, which she spent 17 years at Head Start on Rollandet, tending to her duties and feeding many children during her time there. She remained in the service role, working at the Youth Ranch and cooking at the Good Samaritan Senior Center. During this time in her life, she was a single mom until she met John H. Brown. They courted and were later married on May 28th, 1993. They embraced their vows, sharing many adventures until his passing in 2021.
Sally was an active member in the LDS church; there wasn't much she didn't enjoy. Her passions were cooking, drawing, sewing, painting, nutrition, learning, and teaching people, especially her grandkids. She always strived for knowledge, experience, and growth. She knew how to tell a good story, include people in everything, and was always trying to be the bigger person, sometimes to a fault. Life had its way of giving it to her in the chin, she would always stay positive and in her faith. Sally was a giver, taking in strays, animals, and humans alike. This life wore her down, but she always showed courage and perseverance. She was a woman of compassion, kindness, honesty, and most importantly, love; she somehow always had enough to give. Sally would proudly say that her greatest accomplishments were her kids, her family, and her passion for food!
Sally has left behind one brother, William “Billy” (Leanna) Winder of Iona, ID; three daughters, Brandy (Shon) Ghan of Idaho Falls, ID, Deborah (Rodney) Kremin of Idaho Falls, ID, and Stephanie Winder of Alaska; 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
She will be honored with a celebration of life on November 8th, 2025, at the Ammon 20th Ward church located at 4363 East 17th St., Ammon, ID 83406, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Please join the family for a light lunch and stories of Sally to share with everyone!
