Ruth Wood

Ruth Peterson Lish Wood, 93, passed away in the home of her daughter, Carol Stewart, of Idaho Falls, on June 27th, 2014. The daughter of Lester Hans Peterson and Nellie May Simmons Peterson, she was born July 13th, 1920, in Ucon, Idaho. Ruth and her siblings Marie, Lester, George and Norma, spent most of their early childhood on the family farm in Ucon. Ruth enjoyed school and was an excellent student. She had a life-long love of reading and learning. Her education began at Eagle Rock Grade School and culminated with the receipt of her Practical Nursing Degree from Sacred Heart Hospital. Ruth’s tender nature and unique ability to bring peace and comfort to those in distress were perfect complements to her nursing career. Ruth was married to Paul Lish for 17 years and they became parents to 6 children. One of the heartaches of her young womanhood was the loss of twin daughter's, Nellie and Viola, who died shortly after their births. Ruth married her sweetheart, Boyd John Wood on August 24, 1962. Their marriage was solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple in 1966. Ruth and Boyd combined their two families bringing together children, Michael, Marilyn, Gloria, Carol, Edgar, Kennieth and Kathy. This union proved to be a blessing for all. Boyd and Ruth were married for over 48 years until Boyd’s passing in 2010. Together they welcomed grandchildren and great-grandchildren to the family circle. Ruth and Boyd's home reflected Ruth’s love of family, beauty and cleanliness. Her love of flowers, especially roses, was evident on the inside and outside of their home. Ruth was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Her church service included teaching the children in Primary and Junior Sunday School and working in family history. She treasured the friendships she developed through her many years as a visiting teacher and visiting teacher supervisor. Friends and family, alike, sought her out for her listening ear and compassionate heart. One of Ruth's special gifts was her deep and abiding faith in God and the last words she spoke on this earth were whispered words of prayer. She has been promised that "multitudes would rise up and bless her for the good she has done them". She has left her posterity a lasting legacy of unwavering faith and testimony. It has been our honor and privilege to call her mother, grandmother, and friend. Ruth is survived by her children Michael (Rena) Lish, Pocatello, ID, Edgar (Tammie) Wood, Idaho Falls, ID, Marilyn (Henry) Brown, Providence, UT, Kennieth Wood, Idaho Falls, ID, Gloria Lish, Providence, UT, Katherine (Alan) Breed, Magnolia, TX, and Carol (Craig) Stewart, Idaho Falls, ID, as well as a wonderful posterity including 37 grandchildren, 72 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her loving parents, siblings, twin daughters, a grandson, a granddaughter and her sweetheart Boyd John Wood. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 2, 2014, at the Idaho Falls, LDS 26th Ward Chapel (2025 Jennie Lee Drive), with Bishop Kim D. Smith officiating.
