RUTH M. SCOTT
IDAHO
FALLS, ID -- Ruth Metcalf Scott, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, aunt,
and friend, passed away peacefully in her home on Tuesday, May 27, 2003.
Ruth
was born in Ucon, Idaho, on December 19, 1920, to George Stanley Metcalf
and Mabel Clifton Groom Metcalf. The fifth of seven children, she took
after her father in her love for nature and the outdoors. Early on, she
displayed a talent for organization, and creativity for activities and
events involving people.
At
seventeen, she met and fell in love with Monte Scott who, along with his
father and brother, worked over 600 acres of farmland south of Idaho Falls.
On November 15, 1938, they were married for time and eternity in the Logan,
Utah LDS Temple. For over 50 years, Ruth and Monte made their home on
the farm, where they raised their children and shared their home with
family and friends.
Ruth
and Monte’s desire for a family was realized with the birth of their
daughter, Linda, in 1940. Another daughter, Tanya, was adopted in 1964.
Linda married Val Watkins and the family was further expanded with the
births of three grandsons, Korry, Justin and Adam.
An
active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Ruth
served in many callings, including Stake MIA President, Junior Sunday
School Coordinator, and Librarian. She was also busy in the community,
most notably organizing the Miss Idaho Falls Pageant for many years. One
would often find her surrounded by children, as Ruth could make even the
youngest person feel special and important. She was blessed with an outgoing
and engaging personality, a warm sense of humor, and an infectious zest
for life. Ruth enjoyed the time spent with her family boating, snowmobiling,
and building happy memories at the family cabin in Island Park.
Many
people’s lives have been blessed through their association with
Ruth. She had a great desire to follow the teachings of our Savior, which
was evident in her love and caring for all who came in contact with her.
Ruth’s enthusiasm for life and joy in serving those around her are
defining characteristics of this wonderful and generous woman. She was
admired and loved, and will be greatly missed by the many people whose
lives she has influenced during her time here on earth.
Ruth
is survived by her daughter Tanya (San Diego, CA), her son-in-law, Val,
and grandson Korry (Washington State), her grandsons, Justin and Adam
(California), her sister, Faye Ahern (Chicago), and her brother, Dean
(Louisiana). She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Monte, her
dear daughter, Linda, her parents, her brothers, Don, Verd and Ray, and
her sister, Bernice Betzina.
Funeral
Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 31, 2003, at the Wood Chapel
