RUTH A. PICKETT SALT LAKE CITY, UT -- Ruth Ashliman Pickett, 83, of Ridgefield, Washington, former longtime resident of Lincoln, passed away July 3, 2003, at the home of her son, Roger, in Salt Lake City, Utah, of complications following a stroke. She was under the care of Care Source Home Health & Hospice. She was born June 2, 1920, in North Logan, Utah, to John Ralph Ashliman and Lena Gilgen Ashliman. She spent her early years in Logan, then moved with her family to Idaho Falls, where she grew up and attended schools. She graduated from Idaho Falls High School and then received her nurses training at the LDS Hospital in Idaho Falls. She married Howard Hubbard Pickett September 6, 1940, in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. They lived briefly in Ammon before moving to their home at 2783 East Lincoln Road, where they lived over 60 years. She was a homemaker and mother and worked for 20 years as a Licensed Practical Nurse in the Nursery at the LDS Hospital in Idaho Falls. Her husband passed away July 25, 2001. When her health failed in 2002, she moved to Ridgefield, Washington, to live with her son. She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where she served in both the Primary and Relief Society. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting, and knitting. She and her husband enjoyed traveling to Alaska to fish for 10 years. Surviving are: Son: Roger [Anna Marie] Pickett (Salt Lake City, UT); Son: Clint [JoAnn] Pickett (Ridgefield, WA); Daughter: Joyce [Dean] Larson (Seldovia, AK); Brother: Ernest Ashliman (Idaho Falls); Sister: Jane Whitmill (Idaho Falls); Sister: Laree Quinn (Idaho Falls); 11 Grandchildren and 13 Great Grandchildren She was preceded in death by her husband and a son, Ralph. Funeral Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, July 7, 2003, at the Wood Chapel of the Pines (273 N. Ridge), with Bishop Paul Brizzee of the Lincoln LDS 1st Ward officiating. The family will visit with friends Sunday from 7 to 8 p.m. and Monday for one hour prior to the services, both at Wood Funeral Home.
