Ruth Peterson, 94, of Idaho Falls, passed away on May 18, 2016, at Life Care Center of Idaho Falls.

She was born July 6, 1921, in Shelley, Idaho to William Lester Peterson and Mary Viola Holm Peterson. She attended schools in Gooding and Shelley. Following her high school graduation she attended Ricks College in Rexburg and then Brigham Young University in Provo where she received a Bachelor’s Degree in Education. She attended Gallaudet College for advanced degrees.

Ruth moved to Washington DC for a year, before moving to Salem, Oregon where she taught deaf children at the Oregon State School for the Deaf for 37 years. About 40 years ago, she moved to Idaho Falls where she has since resided.

She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served as a Relief Society Teacher and Visiting Teacher. Ruth enjoyed crafts, reading, and visiting with friends. She especially loved watching family members play and grow up.

She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 21, 2016, at Wood Funeral Home (273 N. Ridge) in Idaho Falls. The family will visit with friends on Saturday from 1-1:45 p.m. prior to the services at the funeral home.

Burial will be in the Shelley-Hillcrest Cemetery. Condolences may be sent to the family online at www.woodfuneralhome.com.
