Jennie Ruth McDonald Lathrop, 96, of Rigby, passed away February 26, 2015, at Great Oaks Assisted Living Center.
Ruth was born February 13, 1919, in Castana, Iowa, to Levi James McDonald and Jennie Georgean Robbins McDonald. She grew up and attended schools in Iowa. She also attended Buena Vista College where she earned her Master’s Degree in Education.
On January 26, 1942, she married Francis Earline Lathrop in Sioux City, Iowa. To this union were born two children, Georgette and Leland. Ruth and Francis were later divorced. Ruth made her home in Ammon, Idaho, after retiring from her career in education.
She was a member of Trinity Methodist Church and she taught Bible study. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, gardening, reading, traveling, visiting family, civic affairs, dancing, and music.
Ruth is survived by her:
daughter, Georgette Anne Porter, husband James, of Rigby, ID;
son, Leland Francis Lathrop, wife Colleen, of Glide, OR;
granddaughter, Janeene Anne Logan Ditmore, partner Christopher Shackelford, of Rigby, ID;
granddaughter, Kristine Michelle Lund, husband Marshall, of Rigby, ID;
great-grandson, Brent Allen Logan of Rigby, ID;
great-grandson, Austin James Lund of Rigby, ID;
great-grandson, Carson William Lund of Rigby, ID;
great great-granddaughter, Hailee Marie Logan of Idaho Falls, ID.
She was preceded in death by her parents, seven brothers, and two sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, March 5, 2015, at Trinity United Methodist Church, 237 North Water Avenue, with Pastor Ruth Marsh officiating. The family will visit with friends from 1:00 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. prior to services at the church. Burial will be in the Belvidere Cemetery in Castana, Iowa.
