REXBURG, IDAHO -- Ruth Ladean Hudman, 89, passed away July 2, 2009 in Rexburg, Idaho at Homestead Assisted Living. She was under the care of Hands of Hope Hospice.
She was born September 30, 1919, to Eli Delbert Mikesell and Mildred Short Mikesell in Idaho Falls. She had three older sisters, an older brother and one younger brother. Her family lived near the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. She attended school at the Coltman elementary school and graduated from Ucon High School.
She married Orson Hudman on June 2, 1936, in Bozeman, Montana, and they were later sealed in the Idaho Falls Temple in 1972. The young couple lived and worked in Island Park during the summer and Orson worked in a potato warehouse in the winter. In 1938, they moved to Coltman and purchased a small store, the Coltman Cash Store. It was later remodeled and renamed Hud’s Market. The store and their home was a gathering place for the community and family. They also worked together as janitors for the Coltman Ward Building and grounds for many years.
Ruth was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in various callings in the Relief Society, Mutual and Primary . She also served as the Ward Librarian. She enjoyed doing Geneology work and was most grateful for her 15 years of serving in the Idaho Falls Temple.
She developed many close friendships in the community while participating in quilting bees, fishing, and camping trips. Family members and their friends were always welcome. If her home was too small the yard became a campground.

I always liked your Mom. And I always wanted to own a store like Hud's Market. Good memories . . . ice cold Coke in a bottle, the two red metal chairs, the charge account file box. We wish you well.

Dear family of Ruth Hudman.
It was always a pleasure to be around your mom. It was fun going to the store next door when we were younger and also seeing her at the church always working to keep it clean. She always was interested in what was going on whenever we came back home to visit. She was a very elect lady and I am sure you will miss her lots. Our prayers are with you at this time.

I am so sorry to hear about Ruth. She was a mother to me when I was a little girl. Some of my happiest times as a child were when I was with her. I will never forget her. I am sorry that I can't come to the service. I am in Washington. Please know my thoughts are with you.
