Ruth Lynn Shackleford Crawford, 69, of Idaho Falls, passed away on February 2, 2017, at Teton Post Acute Care Center. She was born August 11, 1947, in Hammond Indiana, to John Vanort Shackelford and Edna Fischer Shackelford. The family moved to Pocatello where she attended Highland High School and was a member of the high school marching band for three years. She graduated in 1965. On December 5, 1966, she married Warren E. Crawford in Pacific Grove, California. For 26 years she was a Navy wife and said it was "the hardest job in the Navy." Ruth and Warren had one son, John, who is now a teacher at Shelley High School. Ruth worked for 30+ years for the U.S. Government as a Purchasing Agent, spent 12 years in the Navy, and 18+ years working for the Forest Service. For 15 years she traveled all over the world as a member of Disaster Teams fighting forest fires. She regularly worked 12-16 hour days and received numerous awards for extra efforts. Ruth battled cancer five times during a span of 15-20 years. Her motto was "Never give up!" She loved to travel and was able to visit Europe, the Caribbean, Hong Kong, Hawaii, the Great Lakes, the Gulf of Mexico, all of the West Coast, and parts of Canada. She loved the blue water and white sandy beaches. Ruth enjoyed baking, flower gardening, sewing, and decorating the house, patio, and motor home. Family always came first for Ruth. She loved spending time with her grandsons and sewing for new babies in the family. She was always ready to help someone in need, giving of her time and money - no questions asked. She never met a stranger. According to Ruth, she lived a full and satisfying life and lacked for nothing. She knew she was loved every minute. Her husband of 50 years said about their time together: "he would not change a thing and would do it all again in a second." She is survived by her husband, Warren Crawford of Idaho Falls, Idaho; a son, John (Jennifer) Crawford of Ammon, Idaho; and three grandsons who were her true joys. Per Ruth’s request, no services will be held.
