Evelyn Aline "Rusty" McCain Broughton Sorman, 72, of Idaho Falls, passed away December 16, 2016, at Hospice Home in Ammon. Rusty was born April 22, 1944, in Holdrege, Nebraska, the middle child of Mitchell Woodrow McCain and Aline Gracey Burgess McCain. The family moved to Sterling, Colorado, where she attended schools and graduated from Sterling High School. She attended Western State College, where she received a Bachelor's Degree in Social Work. She did her graduate work at Tulane University and then Idaho State University, where she received a Master's Degree in Counseling. In 1968, Rusty married Bill Ragan. Bill was tragically killed in a car accident only 28 days later. Their son, Stephen, was born to Rusty later that year. In 1969, Rusty married James M. Broughton in Fort Collins, Colorado. To this union were born a son, Eric, and twin girls, Kirsten and Kristy. Kristy passed away three days after she was born. Rusty and James later divorced. In 1983, she married Karl Louis Sorman on the banks of Jenny Lake in Wyoming. She worked as a national trainer, counselor in mental health, and also did extensive volunteer work. Rusty was an active member of Rotary. She was a past District Governor (first women in the district) of the Rotary International District 5400 from 2005-2006, and represented the Rotary District at the International Peace Conference in Malaysia. Rusty was also a Legislative Committee Representative and helped build 25 water wells in Nigeria through the Rotary Club. Rusty is survived by her husband, Karl Sorman of Idaho Falls, ID, son, Stephen Edward (Ann Ohme) Broughton of Idaho Falls, ID, daughter, Kirsten Lee Broughton of Pocatello, ID, son, Eric Sean Broughton of Phoenix, AZ, brother, Mitch (Ann) McCain, 7 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Bill Ragan; an infant daughter, Kristy Broughton; and her sister, Christine Thomasen. Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, December 22, 2016, at Wood Funeral Home East Side, 963 S. Ammon Road. The family will visit with friends from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday and from 10:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Thursday prior to the services at 11:00 a.m., both at Wood East Side.
