McCARREY IDAHO FALLS, ID: Dr. Rulon Squires McCarrey, 90, of Idaho Falls, died peacefully, October 24, 2002, at his daughter, Carol’s, home surrounded by his loving family. He was under the care of Hospice of Eastern Idaho. He was born September 13, 1912, at Richmond, Utah, to James Lewis and Alice Maiben Squires McCarrey. He received his bachelor's and also his Master's degree from Utah State University, and served as Training Officer at U. S. U. He was a member of the Honorary Social Science Association, and also of the National Council on Family Relations. He received his Doctor of Philosophy degree from the University of Utah. He also received a Research Fellowship at the University of Minnesota. He served in the U. S. Army Air Corp in World War II as an educational advisor in Germany. He also served at Hill Air Force Base as War Relocation Officer, Employment Counselor, and Civil Service Examiner. He married Lucille Young June 17, 1948 in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. He taught at Ricks College from 1948 to 1978, including a year as visiting teacher at BYU. He was coordinator of the Department of Sociology, and also of the Department of Child Development and Family Relationships. He was co-chairman of the Division of Family Living. He was a lecturer at BYU-Ricks Education Weeks and workshops. He did marriage and family counseling. He is listed in Who's Who in American Education. He was Chairman of the Madison County United Fund and a member of the Draft Board. He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in the following capacities: Missionary in Argentina, Bishop, High Councilman, Sunday School President, President of the Mutual Improvement Association, Gospel Doctrine Teacher, High Priest Group Leader and Stake Clerk. He and his wife served together as temple officiators, as full-time missionaries in the San Antonia Texas mission, and in the Spanish Extraction Program. Rulon’s daughters would like to express their love and appreciation to their Father for the lessons which he taught each of them. He taught them integrity, hard work, love & appreciation of others and of nature, love for our Savior, the gospel, and for temple work. His quick wit stayed with him up to the end. In his life he exemplified the positive words to the hymn, “Let Us Oft Speak Kind Words To Each Other” and “Put Your Shoulder To The Wheel”. He was very dedicated to and had a great influence in the lives of his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He showed unconditional love and support for them and was always there to encourage them in every way. He had a great love for teaching and inspired the lives of his college students. His legacy will live on through his influence in the lives of others. Robins, UTHalf-sister: Marie Dotson, UT12 Grandchildren and 9 Great Grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his loving sweetheart of over 50 years, Lucille Young McCarrey on July 20th of this year, his parents, his stepmother, 5 sisters, 1 brother, 1 half brother, 1 son, and 1 daughter. Funeral Services will be at 11:00 a.m Tuesday, October 29, 2002, at the Idaho Falls North Stake Center (955 Memorial Drive), with Bishop David Holland of the Idaho Falls LDS 7th Ward officiating. The family will meet with friends on Monday from 7-8:30 p.m. at Wood Funeral Home, 273 N. Ridge Ave. and for one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in the Ammon Cemetery.
