Biography

Rula Lenore Heileson Rugg, 87, formerly of Idaho Falls, passed away peacefully May 19, 2011, in Carson City, Nevada, surrounded by family. She was born December 7, 1923, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, the 7th of nine children of Neal and Emily Heileson. She came to California in 1941, eventually settling in Sacramento where she lived until 2006. Rula worked for the state of California for 16 years in the legal sections of the Attorney Generals Office and DMV. She was a strong advocate for underdogs, from social issues to sporting teams. Her love of travel brought her to every continent on the globe, except Australia, although it remained on the list of places to go. She is survived by her daughters, Tia Kay Kolodzey Allman, Ann Kolodzey Henninger, Allison Rugg Riley, and Erika Rugg Hedglin; grandchildren, Camille Meigs Haughey, David Laird, and Grace Hedglin; sisters, Lucille Heileson Hill and Joyce Heileson Harker; as well as many nieces and nephews, who often shared that she was their favorite aunt. She was preceded in death by her first husband of 17 years, Martin Kolodzey, and her husband of 16 years, Walter Rugg. Funeral Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, June 3, 2011, at Rose Hill Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Friday from 1 to 1:45 p.m. at Wood Funeral Home, 273 N. Ridge, prior to leaving for the cemetery.
