Roy Peter Westra

Roy Peter Westra, 67, of Idaho Falls, passed away on June 14, 2025, at his home.

Roy was born August 3, 1957, in Artesia, California, to Theodore J. Westra and Jeanette  Alsum Westra. He grew up in Bellflower, California, and graduated from Valley Christian High School.

He met Susan Bird online with Yahoo Personals, and they were married on January 29, 2005, in French Camp, California. Roy worked as a truck driver. Roy and Susan moved to Idaho Falls in 2017.

Roy was a member of the First Bellflower Christian Reformed Church.

Roy enjoyed RV camping, cruise ships, and road trips. He loved to grill and smoke ribs, tri tips, and roasts for his family and friends. He was a Ham Radio Operator. He loved his vintage 1974 Super Beetle, and riding motorcycles and Schwinn bikes.

Roy is survived by his wife, Susan Westra of Idaho Falls, ID; son, Theo Westra of Ripon, CA; daughter, Lauren (Chris) Whiteside of Ripon, CA; daughter, Erica (Jason) Wray of Gallipolis, OH; brother, Jerry (Nancy) Westra of Bellflower, CA; sister, Myra (Don) Salie of Oakdale, CA; sister, Julie (Jim) Craig of Corona, CA; and 5 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Theodore and Jeanette Westra.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 21, 2025, at the Cedar Ridge Ward, 3195 S. Holmes Avenue in Idaho Falls. A visitation for family and friends will be held from 1-1:45 p.m. prior at the church. Burial will be in the Fielding Memorial Park Cemetery. The service will be broadcast live here .
