Ross E. Tobin of Idaho Falls, Idaho, passed away peacefully at his home on March 4, 2024, at the age of 86, just a few blocks away from the home in which he was born.
Ross was born on July 6, 1937, the youngest of eleven children born to John Thomas Tobin and Lillian May Ross Tobin. He attended and graduated from Idaho Falls High School, and then joined the United States Army where he served in France as a Cryptographer. While there he met and married his wife, Jacqueline Marcelle Vinçon.
After the Army, Ross and Jackie returned to the United States, where he began his career in construction. That led to him working at numerous sites in many countries and states, relocating with his family each time. In 1960 they welcomed their first child, and in 1973 their family was completed when their fifth and final child was born.
In 1999, Ross and Jackie settled in Idaho Falls, where they were finally able to make their forever home. They loved to celebrate just about everything, including receptions, birthdays, holidays, weekends, sports games, or sometimes just-because days. Guests always looked forward to these events, as both Ross and Jackie were excellent cooks. One of the most memorable celebrations was that of Ross and Jackie's 50th Wedding Anniversary in June 2009, which was attended by family and friends from near and far.
Ross was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and siblings: Gordon, Edward, Donald, Quinton, Lillian Nyman, Ruth Rasmussen, Dorothy Mott, Harold, John Thomas (Tom), and Robert; as well as his son-in-law Scott Davis.
He is survived by his five children and their spouses, Tim and Jacque Tobin of Lake Jackson, Texas; Sandy Davis of Richmond, Texas; Michelle Tobin of Richmond, Texas; Steven and Patti Tobin, and Jill Tobin of Idaho Falls, Idaho; eight grandchildren and their spouses, Sean and Kasandra Davis, Kyle and Emily Davis, Bailey Tobin, Brittney and Josh Gott, Delaney and Shea Blevins, Hunter and Brianna Birkinbine, David Birkinbine, and Kirk Birkinbine; and six great-grandchildren, Colten, Kasen, Kennedy, Parker, Payton, and Willow.
Services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 23, 2024, at Wood Funeral Home, 273 N. Ridge Avenue, in Idaho Falls. Visitation will be from 10:00 - 10:45 a.m. at the funeral home prior to the service.
