Rory David Sargeant, 42, of Idaho Falls, passed away July 19, 2018, at his home after a long battle with cancer. He was under the care of his loving family and OneSource Home Health & Hospice. Rory was born October 30, 1975, in Logan, Utah, to Phillip David Sargeant and Marcie Dunkley Sargeant. He spent his early childhood in Illinois, but his family settled in northern California when he was 8 years old. He loved the mountains and lakes and learned to love fishing there. He attended elementary schools in California, and graduated from Anderson High School in 1993. He also attended BYU Idaho and Leheigh University where he received his Bachelors of Science Degree and his Masters Degree in Chemistry. He served a two-year LDS mission in the Honduras San Pedro Sula Mission. On June 14, 2002, he married Loretta Miller in Idaho Falls LDS Temple. They made their home in California, but moved to Rexburg, Idaho, so Rory could complete his Bachelor’s Degree. Rory and Loretta were blessed with three children, Parley D., Hiatt W., and Eliza. The majority of their marriage was spent in Pottstown, Pennsylvania, where Rory was employed at Merck, a pharmaceutical company, as an analytical chemist. He was also employed at Melaleuca in Idaho Falls as a Quality Control Lab Supervisor in July 2014. He worked there until July 1, 2018. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served for many years as a Scoutmaster and helped many young men achieve their Eagle rank. He was a great asset to any community and was very willing to help his friends and neighbors. Rory was a true scout and exemplified all of the great attributes in the Scout Law. He was an obedient, loving and fun-loving son. He was a kind and dedicated husband and father. He was known for his ability to tell truly hilarious stories. He loved doing anything with his family. He loved the outdoors, camping, and especially fishing. He caught his last two fish a few weeks before he passed away. He also loved reading and playing involved board games. Rory is survived by his loving wife, Loretta Sargeant of Idaho Falls, ID, son, Parley D. Sargeant of Idaho Falls, ID, son, Hiatt W. Sargeant of Idaho Falls, ID, daughter, Eliza Sargeant of Idaho Falls, ID, parents, Phillip and Marcie Dunkley Sargeant of Anderson, CA, brother, Ryan R. (Terra) Sargeant of Rexburg, ID, sister, Julia Marie Sargeant of Redding, CA, sister, Marene E. (Juan Carlos) Chavez of Reading, PA, grandmother, Christene Hansen Sargeant of Elko, NV, parents-in-law, Kenley and Annette Taylor Miller of Idaho Falls, ID, brother-in-law, Stuart DeGuilio of Idaho Falls, ID, brother-in-law, Anthony DeGuilio of Sheridan, WY, brother-in-law, Kurt (Holly) Miller of Sugar City, ID, sister-in-law, Charlotte (Randy) Haderlie of Afton, WY. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Richard Pratt and Marie Dunkley and grandfather, Perry David Sargeant. Graveside services for the immediate family will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, July 23, 2018, at the Taylor Cemetery. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. at the Shelley Sand Creek Ward, 1101 East 1250 North, in Shelley. The family will visit with friends from 1-1:45 p.m. prior to services at the church.
