Ron G. Jacobson

Longtime, Jackson area resident and one that "everyone" knows from Stone Drug, Ron Jacobson, passed away on January 16, 2024.  He was battling a major attack of lymphoma.  Born in Jackson in 1959, the son of Jerry & Inez Jacobson, he lived the majority of his school years in Moran, but attended Jackson schools.

His favorite subject was any day that he could stay out of school.  Other than hunting, skiing, riding horses his favorite activity and eventual pastime, you guessed it was FISHING. Any time, any where.  We knew that fishing in Alaska was an all-time religious experience for him.  However, bass fishing and bass tournaments were high on that list; mostly because of the camaraderie of his friends.  Ron helped establish the "Ice Off" fishing derby on Jackson Lake each spring as well as being a Marshall for that event. He moved to the Victor/Driggs, Idaho area in the mid 90's.  Bought some land and acquired a house.  Yes, he was a regular coming and going "over the hill" to work at Stone Drug until his death.  From his home in Victor and a hobby of fly tying, he built a business, Jacobson Baits, over the years that became a must stop for fishermen everywhere.  He manufactured unique hand crafted lures of all kinds.  One of his lure renditions was used to catch the Wyoming State Small Bass record.  After work you could find him in his "lure and bait shop" that he built by his home, producing more of the special fish catching lures.

Ron's parents proceeded him in death.  His sister Susie Jacobson Cooley, (John) lives in Boise, Idaho, sister Julie Jacobson Trobaugh (Jeff) lives in Vancouver, WA., brother Bruce Jacobson (Gail) lives in Riverton, WY.  He has five nieces and several grandnieces and grandnephews. There are a number of Chambers cousins on his mother's side in the Jackson and Driggs area. A memorial is being planned at Dornan's in Moose during the May "Ice Off" Fishing Contest awards ceremony.

The family will be forever grateful for his friend, Kevin Brazell, who took it upon himself to be at Ron's side when Ron needed uplifting, driven to appointments or whatever needed to be done. We think his favorite niece, Paisley Logan (Bruce's granddaughter, said it best to him when she said "The best thing about fishing with ‘Uncle Roon' is the snacks"!
