ROLAND "OLLIE" BACKLUND IDAHO FALLS, ID -- Roland Dan “Ollie” Backlund, 86, of New Sweden, passed away March 28, 2004, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center. He was born July 18, 1917, in Idaho Falls, to Daniel Severus Backlund and Elena Nelson Backlund. He grew up in Riverdale and attended schools there. He served in the U. S. Army during World War II. Ollie has been a lifelong resident of the Idaho Falls area. He married Lois Rhead April 27, 1946, at Idaho Falls. He loved farming and farmed in the New Sweden area. Lois passed away November 20, 1982. He loved visiting with family, especially in Phoenix, Arizona, and spending time with his grandchildren and attending their activities. Surviving are: Daughter: Connie [Bill, deceased] Newbern, Gilbert, AZ Daughter: Frankie [Mike] Jensen, Provo, UT Daughter: Carla [Kenn] Beckman, Idaho Falls, ID Daughter: Pam [Dave] Prine, Peoria, AZ Son: Ray [Michelle] Backlund, Pleasant Grove, UT Son: Dan Backlund, Salt Lake City, UT Brother: Glen Backlund, Firth, ID Sister: Gladys Scott, Idaho Falls, ID 22 Grandchildren, 15 Great Grandchildren He was preceded in death by his wife, three brothers, Eno, Carl, and Arnold Backlund, two sisters, Lucille Summers and Florence Storms, a son-in-law, Bill Newbern, and a great granddaughter, Angela Peterson. Graveside Funeral Services will be at 12 Noon, Thursday, April 1, 2004, at the New Sweden Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Wednesday from 7 to 8 p.m. at Wood Funeral Home (273 N. Ridge). Burial will be in New Sweden Cemetery under the direction of Wood Funeral Home. Military Rites will be performed by the Bonneville County Veterans Team.
