Roger Hoffman Sr

Roger Dix Hoffman, Sr., 81, of Idaho Falls, passed away Friday, July 6, 2018, at his home. He was under the care of his loving family and Encompass Home Health & Hospice. Dix, as he was known by all, was born October 12, 1936, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, to C.R. Hoffman and Archie Havens Hoffman. He lived his entire life in Idaho Falls, with the exception of a few years during World War II when his family moved to Athol, Idaho. He graduated from Idaho Falls High School, Class of ‘55, where he lettered in boxing. It was in high school where he joined the DeMolay and began a life of civic responsibility. Later, he joined the JayCees. On July 12, 1957, he married Hazel Mary Larson. They honeymooned along the Pacific Northwest coast. They were blessed with three children, Roger, Christine and Kendra. Dix and Hazel made their home in Idaho Falls, where Dix worked first as a home builder, then in Property Management for the Atomic Energy Commission/ERDA/Department of Energy. For several years during the mid 1960's, he could be found on a Thursday through Saturday night tending bar at the Stardust. He was a member of the First Baptist Church and he and Hazel hosted many a Bible Study in their home. He was a Free-mason and belonged to the Eagle Rock Masonic Lodge #19 A.F & A.M. where he served as the Most Worshipful Grand Master for the State of Idaho in 1992-1993. Of the many things he enjoyed can be listed golfing, poker nights, cheering on the Boise State Broncos football team, hunting (ironically, back in the day when hamburger or a chicken dinner at LeBaron’s was a luxury, the freezer was always filled with "exotic" items like pheasant and venison), setting off fireworks on Christmas Eve, having coffee with his buddies at the Lodge, wine collecting, and dogs. But when all is said and done, his ultimate enjoyment came from his family, and knowing that "mom and the kids were alright." Dix is survived by his loving wife, Hazel Mary Hoffman of Idaho Falls, ID; son, Roger Dix Hoffman, Jr. of Salt Lake City, UT; daughter, Christine Crossley of Idaho Falls, ID; and daughter, Kendra Hoffman of Boise, ID. Dix was preceded in death by his parents, C.R. and Archie Hoffman, and his loving in-laws, Hans Fredrick and Clarice Larson. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 28, 2018, at Fielding Memorial Park, with a wake following from 2-4 p.m. at the home of Dix and Hazel Hoffman.
