Roger Meppen Compton, 81, of Ammon, passed away December 21, 2015, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center. Roger was born May 2, 1934, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, to Henry J Compton and Hilda Meppen Compton. He grew up and attended schools in Idaho Falls and graduated from Idaho Falls High School. He also attended the College of Idaho. Roger served in the US Navy on the USS Aeolus. He married Marilyn Burke in Idaho Falls. To this union were born two daughters, Elizabeth and Kimberly. Roger and Marilyn were later divorced. He later married Barbara Schlangen, they were later divorced, but remained good friends. Roger worked as a Office Manager for Garret Freightliners. He was a member of The First Presbyterian Church. Roger was an avid flower gardener and hockey grandpa. He would endure early morning and late night games and white knuckle drives to neighboring states, just to watch his grandsons play hockey. Roger enjoyed fishing, camping and golf. He was a member of The Hole In One Club. Roger volunteered at the Willard’s Art Center and at The Museum of Idaho. Roger is survived by two daughters, Kimberly Boyd of Idaho Falls, ID, and Elizabeth "Liz" (Wade White) Smith of Boise, ID, two grandsons, Patrick Taylor (Skye Gombert) Boyd of Seattle, WA, and Jordan Christopher (Brittany Ireland) Boyd of Boise, ID, a son in-law, Patrick Boyd of Lone Pine, MT, a younger brother, Allan (June) Compton of Centennial, CO, three nephews, Colin (Eva), Kevin (Lin) and Curt (Wendy), and a niece, Meredith (Quinn). He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Gene Compton. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 29, 2015, at Wood Funeral Home, 273 N. Ridge Avenue, with Reverend Cathy Chisholm of the Idaho Falls First Presbyterian Church officiating. The family will visit with friends for one hour prior to the services Tuesday at Wood Funeral Home. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery. Military Rites will be performed by the Bonneville County Veterans Memorial Team and Idaho Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the American Red Cross at www.redcross.org, the American Cancer Society at www.cancer.org, the Idaho Falls Youth Hockey Association at www.ifyha.com, or to a charity of one’s choice.

11:00 a.m. ,Tuesday, December 29, 2015 Wood Funeral Home 273 North Ridge Avenue Idaho Falls, ID, Bonneville 83402 Notes: The family will visit with friends for one hour prior to the services Tuesday at Wood Funeral Home (273 N. Ridge). Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.
