Roberta (Bert)Rae Bishop, 74, passed away on October 8, 2023 at The Gables Assisted Living Center of Idaho Falls, Idaho. She had been suffering from multiple health issues.
Roberta was born on July 22, 1949, to Robert N. and Clara Mae (Olsen) Bishop, in Ft. Collins, CO. She grew up in Windsor, CO, where she attended grades K-12. She received her B.A. in Education & Special Education from the University of Northern Colorado (1971) and did graduate studies in Guidance & Counseling at Adams State College (1982-84).
She married Robin Oakes Bishop, on September 3, 1971. Their friends introduced them, thinking that two Bishop’s would surely be a perfect match. As an adventurous, traveling couple, she taught special education to children with complex needs. She taught in Colorado, Arizona, New York, Hawaii, Alaska and finally in Idaho. Above all she loved children and was skilled at meeting a variety of special needs. She was a master at working with their families and was admired by her colleagues. She made a difference in so many lives.
Her next passion was her Cocker Spaniels. What unconditional love they shared! She always had a dog in her lap or by her side. She was also a skilled seamstress, played piano and guitar. She was a very active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of the Later-day Saints; teaching classes, sponsoring youth groups, leading sewing and craft projects, and organizing adult choirs. She was a Biblical scholar and routinely read scriptures two hours each day.
Roberta was preceded in death by her husband, Robin (2022).
She is survived her son, Griffin Drew Bishop (April); two granddaughters, Paula & Rachel; siblings, Richard (Coral), Buzz (Pam), and Darlene.
Roberta will be remembered for her unwavering faith in God, her positive and witty spirit, her love for children and dogs. Her presence made the world a better place. May she rest in peace with her Heavenly Father, knowing that she will be sorely missed by so many.
