Robert Earl Tiller, Jr., passed away on August 1, 2026, at the age of 92. Robert "Bob" was a longtime resident of Idaho Falls, Idaho.
Bob was born in Blossburg, Pennsylvania, in 1934 to Robert Earl Tiller, Sr., and Ruby Massey Tiller.
Bob grew up in Ferndale, California, attending Humboldt State University and graduating with a degree in Nuclear Physics.
In 1954, Bob met Darlene Anttila at a dance in Arcata, California. They married in 1955, and had their first child in 1957. The family moved to Richland, Washington, in 1960, where Bob was employed at the Hanford Nuclear Site. In 1962, the Tiller family moved to Idaho Falls after Bob had taken a position in the safety division of AEC/DOE for the Idaho National Laboratory.
Bob had an extensive career in nuclear energy research, development, and remediation. He worked for thirty years for the Atomic Energy Commission/Department of Energy, and then for various nuclear energy contractors after retiring from federal service.
The Tiller family spent many weekends and holidays camping, hiking, and fishing. In his prime, Bob was an avid big game hunter and always kept a Brittany pup for hunting game birds.
Bob is survived by his wife, Darlene; daughters, Robyn Tiller, Julie (Cary) Nielson, and Chris (Deb) Tiller; 8 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Charles "Buck" Tiller; and son, Brett Tiller.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, August 6, 2026, at the Ammon Cemetery, 5226 East Sunnyside Road.
The family has requested that, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to the Bonneville Humane Society.
