Robert "Bob" Leroy Storms, 77, of Idaho Falls, passed away May 20, 2016, at MorningStar Senior Living Center. He was under the care of Aspen Home Health and Hospice.
Bob was born April 2, 1939, in New Sweden, Idaho, to Ellis Merle Storms and Florence Backlund Storms. He grew up in Utah and the Idaho Falls area and graduated from Idaho Falls High School in 1957, where he received the Ronnie Harris Award for outstanding student athlete. He also attended the University of Idaho and Idaho State University.
On September 5, 1958, he married his high school sweetheart, Janet Burgin, in Idaho Falls, Idaho. To this union were born five children, Patricia, Sandra, Lynda, Bobbi, and Ryan. On May 19, 1984, they were sealed as a family for Time and Eternity in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple.
In their early years as Bob furthered his career, they lived in Wyoming, Colorado, Washington, Utah, and Idaho, settling in the Rigby/Idaho Falls area. Bob worked as a manager, district manager, and area manager for Boise Cascade/BMC West, retiring in 2001 after 42 years.
Bob was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He and Janet served a mission in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple Visitor’s Center after he retired. He had many callings, and was a great example of loving and serving others.
His hobbies included hunting, fishing, farming and spending time with his family. He especially enjoyed watching his grandchildren play sports. One of his favorite places to spend time was at his cabin in Island Park.
Bob is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Janet Storms of Idaho Falls; daughter, Patricia (Matt) Murphy of Meridian, ID; daughter, Sandra (Earl) Hurst of Farmington, UT; daughter, Lynda Poulsen of Nampa, ID; daughter, Bobbi (Nathan) Nielsen of Taylorsville, UT; son, Ryan (Cyndee) Storms of Idaho Falls, ID; sister, Janice (Alyn) Jones of Fruit Heights, UT; brother, Rulon (Judy) Storms of Rigby, ID; brother, Dennis (Kathy) Storms of Menan, ID; 20 grandchildren and 10 (plus one on the way) great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers; grandson, Trevor Nielsen; and granddaughter, Jordain Murphy.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 27, 2016, at the Idaho Falls LDS Summerfield Ward, 3721 Shadow Mountain Trail Road, with Bishop Michael Griffin officiating. The family will visit with friends Thursday from 6:30-8 p.m. at Wood Funeral Home East Side, 963 South Ammon Road, and Friday from 10-10:45 a.m. prior to services at the church. Burial will be in the Annis-Little Butte Cemetery.
