BOB SHANKS
IDAHO FALLS, ID -- Robert Carl Shanks, 77, of Idaho Falls, died June 8, 2009, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center.
He was born February 2, 1932 in Windsor, Vermont, to Carl Haines Shanks and Forrestine Elaine Northrup Shanks. He attended Bethel Elementary School and graduated from Randolph High School.
He served as an AE Chief completing four tours in the Navy Air Force during the Korean and Vietnam Wars.
He married Kathleen Ann Monahan on August 27, 1988. He was a pilot, avionics instructor, electrician, mechanic, carpenter and industrial water engineer. He lived in Japan; Bermuda; San Jose, California; West Point, California and Idaho Falls, Idaho. After 24 years of service, he retired with a Purple Heart and four Bronze Stars.
He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion and the Eagles. He loved his 1965 Ford Galaxy, working on cars, and his pets.

Brother: Wendall Shanks
Grandchildren: Casey Shanks, Ryan Shanks, Summer Shanks, Michael Clarque, Dylan Clarque, Riley Breton and Jeremy Breton. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Bob will be cremated and interment will be in West Point Cemetery, West Point, California at 10:30 a.m. on August 8, 2009. Veterans rites will be performed by the local VFW. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Bob’s name to the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) at 406 West 34th Street, Kansas City, Missouri 64111 or on-line at vfw.org.

Kathy We are so sorry to hear of Bob's passing. He was a great and dear friend of ours. We will always remember our trips to Jackson Hole. He was great fun to be around. Eagles and First Street will miss him a lot.
