Robert 'Bob' Rice

Click Here To View Memorial Video Robert Bristol (Bob) Rice, 91, passed away June 6, 2013, at his home in Las Vegas, Nevada. Bob was born October 24, 1921, in Poplar, Idaho, to Inez Adora Bristol Rice and David Lee Rice. He attended elementary, intermediate and high schools in Tacoma, Washington, and received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Washington in Seattle and his master’s degree at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. During his working years, Bob enjoyed two separate and successful careers. He first worked in construction and counted as one of his major accomplishments, serving as Assistant Superintendent on the construction of the Yale Dam in Washington state. He later worked as a highly regarded schoolteacher for 29 years, prior to retiring in 1988 and moving to Las Vegas, his home for the last 25 years. He was also an avid mountain climber, besting seven of the nine major peaks, including the 14,600-foot Mt. Rainier in the Pacific Northwest. His interest in sports was consuming, topped by his enthusiasm for college football. His passion for gardening produced a countless array of homegrown fruits and vegetables. Bob also spent many years taking care of his ill mother after his father passed away, so it was a surprise to all when he married the love his life, the former Evelyn Villareal, in 1990 – when he was nearly 70 years old. The couple spent 22 happy years together, visiting family, traveling the globe, dining out and simply enjoying each other’s company. Bob is survived by his wife, Evelyn, his sister, Alice Anae of Laie, Hawaii, a cousin, Margie Luba of San Carlos, California, and ten Rice Family Cousins. He will also be greatly missed by his two nieces, five nephews, and many friends and neighbors in Las Vegas and elsewhere who loved and admired him. Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, June 22, 2013, at the Ririe Stake Center (14061 N. 130 E.). The family will visit with friends from 11:30 a.m. - 12:45 p.m. prior to the services. Burial will be in the Ririe Shelton Cemetery.
