Robert Alfred Nethercott, 95, of Jackson, Wyoming, passed away August 16, 2010 at Homestead Assisted Living in Rigby, Idaho.
Bob was born in Wilson, Wyoming on November 16, 1914. He was the eldest of four children born to Robert Silas Nethercott and Ethel Nickerson Nethercott. His great-grandfather and his grandfather homesteaded near Wilson.
During the early years of Bob’s life, he traveled up and down the western coast with his family following various harvests for employment.
Upon his graduation from highschool in 1933, he returned to the Jackson area where he met Chrystal Robertson.
On May 11, 1939, Bob married the love of his life, Chrystal Robertson Nethercott. They made their home in Jackson and were blessed with three children, Leah, Marsha, and Mark., They were sealed as a family for time and all eternity in the Idaho Falls LDs Temple on June 23, 1965.
Bob was no stranger to hardship, as he lived through the Great Depression of 1929. He worked a variety of jobs to meet his family’s needs during those lean years.
He was an ambitious man. He built his home, which still stands on West Gill Street in Jackson. Bob and Chrystal lived there until 2005. Bob was known for his generous heart. He rendered countless acts of service.
Some people gave of their excess, but Bob gave his all.
He touched hearts in small and simple ways, and others’ lives were changed for good.
Sports brought a lot of happiness into Bob’s life. He loved baseball, basketball, golfing, fishing, and snowmobiling. He was very athletic.
He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in many callings. Bob worked with Chrystal in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple for twelve years.
Survivors include his children Marsha (Terry) Singleton of Idaho Falls, ID, and Mark (Christie) Nethercott of Afton, Wyoming, 11 Grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and his brother, George Nethercott.
He was preceded in death by his wife Chrystal Robertson Nethercott, his daughter Leah Rae Nethercott, a grandson James Robert Singleton, and a great granddaughter Sarah Singleton.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 21, 2010 at the Jackson LDS 1st Ward ( 420 East Broadway), with Bishop James Genzer officiating. The family will visit with friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Friday evening and 10 to 10:45 a.m. prior to services, with both visitations at the church. Burial will be in the Jackson South Park Cemetery under the direction of Wood Funeral Home.
