Greg Mays went home to his Heavenly Father and reunited with his daughter peacefully in his sleep while surrounded by loved ones, Thursday, October 7, 2010, after being diagnosed with liver cancer.
Robert Gregory “Greg” Mays was born October 23, 1954, in Waterloo, Iowa. He grew up in Ammon, Idaho and graduated from Bonneville High School in 1972.
In 1975, Greg married his sweetheart: Debbie Salvesen. They were married for 35 years, had 3 children and 7 grandchildren. Greg became a pipefitter in 1979, and was an excellent welder in all alloys. Later, Greg served on the executive board, and was also an instructor for SMAC and orbital welding. He was proud of the union that he worked for and all the people he worked with. Because of his high demand as a welder, Greg traveled the United States throughout his career, where he met many lifetime friends that he will never forget.
Greg was an avid outdoorsman. His passions were steelhead fishing and hunting. He also loved studying birds and hunting for arrowheads. Greg enjoyed watching college football, professional baseball, and old westerns. He enjoyed cooking and most of all, his family. Greg loved being a “Papa” and spoiling his grandkids.
Greg is survived by his wife, Debbie; daughter, Kristin (Josh) Dalton; son, Jared Mays; and his grandchildren, Brandon, Brittney, Brylee, Bridger, Taylor, Paige, and Sawyer. He is also survived by his mother, Gayle Wolz of Idaho Falls; brother, Steve (Jodi) Mays of Superior, Wisconsin; brother, Jim Mays of Mountain Home; brother, Marty (Connie) Mays of Rigby; and sister Kim Pence of Idaho Falls. Greg is survived by his brother-in-law, Dave (Susan) Salvesen of Rexburg; brother-in-law Dan (Sandy) Salvesen of Boise; sister-in–law, Didi (Brad) Andrie of Minneapolis; sister-in-law, Daralee (Kent) Beck of Idaho Falls; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father Cleatus Mays; stepfather, Bob Wolz; and precious daughter, Melissa Mays Garcia.
