Robert "Bob" James Dougherty, 69, of Blackfoot, passed away August 15, 2025, under the care of Bingham Memorial Hospital and Hospice.
Bob was born May 20, 1956, to parents, Marilu (Routzahn) Dougherty and John A. Dougherty. He was born and raised in Great Falls, Montana. The family was very musically talented and also enjoyed spending time in the outdoors. During his teen years, Bob enjoyed flat track racing on his dirt bike. Although, never a church member, Bob buddied up with one of his good friends and joined the local LDS basketball team, where his height helped him excel. Bob graduated from Great Falls High School in 1974.
After High School, Bob turned his love of music into a career. He was the light and sound technician for multiple bands including Fiver Alamode, Orangeroze, Frenzy, and The Thorsen Brothers. He traveled the United States enjoying the band life with countless friends, some of whom he was still in contact with.
It was during one of these shows in Idaho Falls, at the Stardust Lounge he met Kimberli Brunson. They were married in 1980 in Idaho Falls. They added three children to their family – John (1982), Shawn (1984), and Emily (1986). They would later divorce.
He also found work in drywall, long-haul trucking, and traffic flagging.
Some of Bob's favorite hobbies included music, riding Harley Davidsons, hunting and fishing, becoming a precise billiards player, four-wheeling with his son, and chatting with his favorite grandchild, Addi. He will be remembered by many for his humor, kindness, and ability to make friends with almost everyone around him. Although he had a tough exterior, he truly had a very loving and compassionate interior.
Bob is survived by his son, Shawn (Janice) Dougherty of Idaho Falls; daughter, Emily (Allan) Brighton of Rigby; granddaughter, Addi Brighton; brother, Daniel (Rebecca) Dougherty; nephews, Kyle and EJ; nieces, Colleen and Bryn; and his forever pal, his dog, Hoss.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John A. and Marilu; son, John; brother, John W; and sister, Susan.
A celebration of life is planned for Sunday, September 7, 2025, at Papa Tom's, 1830 S. Woodruff in Idaho Falls, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
The family would like to express their deepest thank you to The Willows Assisted Living in Blackfoot, ID, for helping to take great care of Bob during the later part of his life. He enjoyed teasing the staff and made good friends while living there. Thank you for filling his days with fun and humor! We would also like to thank the ICU floor at Bingham Memorial (especially Nurse Jon) for the remarkable care provided during his final days.
