Our beloved father and grandfather, Robert Myers Hall, 97, of Idaho Falls, passed away December 7, 2011, at the home of his daughter in Idaho Falls of causes incident to age. He was under the care of his loving family and Hands of Hope Hospice. Robert was born May 8, 1914, in Mitchelville, Iowa, to George W. Hall and Bessie Drummond Hall. He graduated high school at Mitchelville, received his Bachelor of Sacred Literature Degree from Drake University in Des Moines (1937), Bachelor of Divinity Degree (1974) from Christian Theological Seminary, in Indianapolis, and Phillips University (1972) in Enid, Oklahoma, which granted him an honorary Doctor of Divinity degree. He was a member of the International Society of Theta Phi Honor Society for Ministers and Religious Workers. On August 22, 1934, he married Kathryn Barkley in Moorhead, Iowa. They had two children, Loren Robert Hall of Indianapolis, and Ruth Ellen (Mike) Oar of Idaho Falls. Kathryn passed away January 15, 1996. Robert is survived by his children, four grandchildren and eight grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, two sisters, and three brothers. Robert was a minister in the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). He served as parish minister for 28 years before moving into regional work in Nebraska, Illinois, and Wisconsin. His parish fields included Sheridan, Indiana, (1942-1946), Sigourney, Iowa (1946-1954) and Macomb, Illinois, (1954-1963). He retired in 1979 and came to live in Idaho Falls in 2006. Robert and Kathryn had rich travel experiences. They attended The World Convention of Churches of Christ in Buffalo, NY.; Toronto, Canada; Melbourne, Australia; Edinburgh, Scotland; San Juan, Puerto Rico; and in 1965 they visited Jamaica, Haiti, and St. Thomas. In 1967, they took a group around the world, visiting mission stations and seeing many countries. They took another group to the Scandinavian countries, Germany and Italy in 1970. The climax of the trip was the Passion Play at Oberammergau. In 1973 a tour group was taken across Central Africa, visiting missionary work at Zaire, Zambia and Ethiopia. In June, 1975, Robert joined an archaeological ‘dig’ at Tell el-Hesi near Jerusalem. Additionally, he attended a seminar at Chateau De Bossey in Switzerland. They took a group to Alaska and British Columbia (1978) and led a tour to China (1980). He also toured Russia in 1990. Memorial Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 27, 2011, at Trinity United Methodist Church, 237 North Water Avenue, with Pastor Brenda Sene and Reverend Don Dunn, First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), officiating. The family will visit with friends from 1 to 1:45 p.m. at the church. Burial will be in the Orilla Cemetery in Orilla, Iowa, in the spring. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations to the Idaho Falls Soup Kitchen, 301 South Boulevard, Idaho Falls, ID 83401, or Trinity United Methodist Church Discretionary Fund, 237 North Water Avenue, Idaho Falls, ID 83402.
