Our special husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather passed with his ever beloved great-granddaughter Michelle, his wife Caroline, his daughter Jann, and his daughter Dawn, his granddaughter Natasha, and his dog Molly surrounding and comforting him on Sunday, September 4, 2011 at Life Care Center in Idaho Falls, ID at the age of 86. Robert Wallace Edward was born February 26, 1925, in Ogden, Utah, the only child of William McKay Edward and Florence Carr Edward. He attended schools in Ogden and as a senior in high school, at the age of 17, enlisted in the United States Navy to serve his country in World War II, as did many of his classmates. In January, Bob had enough credits to graduate, but knew he was about to be drafted. He did receive his diploma, but was at sea when his class graduated. He later attended college classes. Bob served in World War II aboard the U.S.S. Enterprise (CV-6), an aircraft carrier. Bob treasured his service years and he felt every “boy” (as they were called then) should serve in the military at some time. He was very proud of his sons when they enlisted and served honorably. Bob married Joan N. Beller in Ogden, Utah. Three children were born to this union. They were later divorced. Joan preceded him in death. Bob came to Idaho Falls, ID in 1952 to work for Westinghouse, one of the original contractors for the Atomic Energy Commission. He planned on staying in Idaho Falls for two years, but soon found that he very much enjoyed his work and the benefits of Idaho Falls and Idaho and spent the remainder of his 86 years here. Bob later earned his real estate licence and for awhile, worked part time and this became his full time profession. He and Caroline founded Idaho Falls Realty, which was in business for 40 years. Bob married M. Caroline Wood on August 10, 1974 and lovingly and endlessly took on her family. He chose to not specify whose children were “his” and “hers.” Typical of Bob, they were all the same to him. He was a “lifetime” member of B. P. O. E. 1087 Elks Lodge and was a Past Exalted Ruler. He was a Christian, and in later life, shared these beliefs with Caroline. Bob is survived by his wife Caroline, his daughter Dawn (Brian) Douglas, of Salt Lake City, UT; son, Richard D. (Anne) Edward of Glenburn, North Dakota; son, Robert P. (Marianne) Edward of Boulder, CO; daughter Janice C. Wood of Idaho Falls, ID; 6 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, his dogs Molly and Daisy, and his cat, Oreo. Bob loved and appreciated flowers, but he loved animals much more – especially the hungry and cold ones. At his family’s request, in lieu of flowers, please support the Humane Society of the Upper Valley, care of Andi Elliot, P.O. Box 51021, Idaho Falls, ID 83405. The family would like a special thanks to my friend Lisa on Sixth Floor at E.I.R.M.C., everyone at Life Care Center, especially Kim Bingham, who “adopted” and endlessly cared for Bob until the end and was also there when he passed, Dr. Brigham Redd for his care and concern for us all over the months, and Dr. Gene Hodges for several years of care, and to Eric Ottewitte for many reasons. We love and miss you Bob, Daddy, and Grandpa. Funeral services for Bob will be at 2:00 p.m. Monday, September 12, 2011 at Wood Funeral Home, 273 North Ridge Avenue. The family will visit with friends from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday evening and one hour prior to services, both visitations at Wood Funeral Home.
