Robert "Bob" Kinichi Sato

Robert “Bob” Kinichi Sato, 86, of Ammon, Idaho passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on February 8, 2026, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center.

Bob was born August 25, 1939, at Cooley Memorial Hospital in Brigham City, Utah, to Shigeichi Sato and Aiko Tokita Sato. He spent most of his growing up years on the family farm helping his parents in the fields, getting into mischief with his twin brother, and teasing his sisters. Bob attended schools in Idaho Falls and graduated from Bonneville High School in 1958.

After high school, Bob enlisted and served in the United States Air Force performing maintenance on C-124 Heavy-Lift Military transport aircrafts as well as smaller transport aircrafts. Bob served during The Vietnam War as support personnel. During his time in the military, Bob earned the ranking of Airman 2nd Class.

Bob married Anita Martinez in 1965. They later divorced. Bob spent most of his adult life in Ogden, Utah, where he worked as a civilian aircraft mechanic at Hill Airforce Base. He enjoyed working with the engines and problem solving to ensure the aircrafts were mechanically sound. Bob was proud of the work he did, and he was an excellent mechanic, not only for planes but for cars as well. He was often found under the hood of an old car tinkering around to get it up and running, and most often, he would have it on the road in no time.

Bob was a member of the Catholic Church. After he retired from Hill Airforce Base, he was able to spend more time doing the things that he loved, fishing year round, golfing, going to Fort Hall to play bingo, and most of all, being with people. Bob loved talking with people when he was out in the community.

Bob is survived by his twin brother, Junior J. (Cecilia) Sato of San Jose, CA; nephews, Douglas Yoshimura of Roy, UT, and Kevin Claver of Pocatello, ID; and nieces, Dana (Bobby) Miyawaki, of Clearfield, UT, and Staci Sutherland of Idaho Falls, ID.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Jeanette S Yoshimura and KerryAnn Sato Hersley; and two nephews, Trevor Neil Claver and Jaxx James Sutherland.
