ROBERT BISHOP
IDAHO FALLS, ID -- Robert Jean "Bob" Bishop died December 26, 2007, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center.
He was born at Blackfoot, Idaho, May 16, 1925, to James Galen Bishop and Parthenia Crabtree Bishop. The family moved to Rexburg, Idaho, when Robert was six weeks old. They resided with his maternal grandmother.
Robert attended Washington School in Rexburg until the family moved to Idaho Falls in 1935. He attended Central School, Idaho Falls Junior High School, and graduated from Idaho Falls High School in 1942.
During World War II he served in the United States Army Air Corps flying F-13 aircraft, camera equipped B-29s, with the 20th Air Force in the Mariana Islands.
After returning from the service, he attended the University of Utah, graduating in 1949. He moved to Idaho Falls, where he was active in the produce industry for over 50 years.
Robert married Dorothy Grimmett September 21, 1946. This union resulted in five children. They later divorced.
Robert married Ruth Marie Ferney June 7, 1967. They had one child who died shortly after birth.
Robert was an accomplished musician. He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
In the 1950s, Robert was instrumental in changing how Idaho Burbank Potatoes were graded, sized, packaged and marketed. These methods were subsequently adopted by other potato producing states, and in Canada.
Robert is survived by his children, Dr. Cynthia M. Bishop of Ogden, Utah; Ren J. Bishop, Sr. of Idaho Falls, ID; Barbara (Randee) Baldwin of Idaho Falls, ID; Patricia (Royce) Smith of South Jordan, Utah; and Rob (Teresa) Bishop of Idaho Falls. Also surviving are 15 grandchildren and 29 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Dorothy; his second wife, Marie; and a sister, Helen Margaret Keller.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, December 29, 2007, at Wood Funeral Home, 273 N. Ridge, with Robert S. Bishop officiating. The family will visit with friends for one hour prior to the services at Wood Funeral Home. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.

I am so sorry to hear of the passing of your father. What I remember most about him is that he always seemed to have a smile. He seemed to be an upbeat person.It was nice to read about his many accomplishments.
