ROBERT "BOB" BARRIE
UCON, ID -- Robert Wayne “Bob” Barrie, 68,
of Ucon, Idaho, died August 7, 2004, from complications related to leukemia
in the University of Utah Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Bob, the second child of Andrew Barrie and Elva Nielsen
Barrie, was born in Rigby, Idaho, on May 8, 1936, and grew up on the family
farm in Milo, Idaho. He attended schools in Milo and Ucon, Idaho. He graduated
from Bonneville High School in 1955. He served in the U.S. Army for two
years as a young man and was recalled for the Berlin Crisis in 1961. He
received an Associates Degree from Idaho State University.
Bob married Shirley Ann Gray on October 4, 1961 in the
Logan, Utah LDS Temple. They made their home in Ucon, Idaho, where he
spent 38 years doing what he loved the most, running a successful farm,
raising grain, hay, peas, and sugar beets.
Bob was devoted to his family and his farm. As an active
member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he served in
various church callings. In 1984 and 1990 he was awarded Grower of the
Year in Eastern Idaho for his barley production. He served on the Board
of Directors of the Farmers Friend Canal for 22 years and was President
for 17 years.
Bob is survived by his wife, Shirley Barrie, Ucon, ID;
his father, Andrew Barrie, Ucon, ID; his children, Brenda (John) Redford
of Denver, Colorado, Janet (Scott) Bingham of Ogden, UT, Mark (Peggy)
Barrie of Idaho Falls, ID, Amy Barrie of Salt Lake City, UT, and Doug
(Heather) Barrie of Ucon, ID, seven sisters, Betty (Ivan) Huntsman, Barbara
(Jerry) Rounds, Jeanette Foster, Mary Lou (Phil) Dupes, Veda (Robert)
Weatherbee, Vada (Steve) Molen, and Joyce (Glayson) Pickett, and 12 Grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Elva Barrie, and a daughter, Susan
G. Barrie.
Funeral Services will be held at 12 Noon on Thursday
August 12, 2004, at the Milo LDS 1st Ward, 12121 North 75 East, with Bishop
Kenneth D. Stucki officiating.
The family will visit with friends Wednesday from 6 to
7:30 p.m. at the Wood Funeral Home, 273 North Ridge, Idaho Falls, and
on Thursday from 10:30 to 11:45 a.m. at the church.
Burial will be in the Ucon Cemetery under the direction
of Wood Funeral Home.
Military Rites will be performed by the Bonneville County
Veterans Team.
