On Saturday, January 4, 2014, Rita Pearl Etters Sholder, 87, of Idaho Falls, quietly passed on to be with her Heavenly Father, surrounded by her family, at the home of her daughter, Renee. She was under the care of Hospice of Eastern Idaho.
Mom was born June 8, 1926, to Ralph Etters and Lulu McCartney Etters, in Pancake, Pennsylvania. She was the seventh child of a seventh child in a family of nine children. As a young girl the family moved into Williamsport, Pennsylvania. Mom and her seven sisters and one cousin formed a girls fast-pitch softball team, with her dad as the coach, and participated in many competitions around the state.
On December 18, 1945, she married Donald Paul Sholder in the Newberry Church of Christ in Williamsport. The family moved to Idaho Falls in October, 1957, when Don went to work for Phillips 66 as a bus dispatcher for the Atomic Energy Commission at the Site. Mom worked various jobs around Idaho Falls, including Doug's Dairyland Kitchen, GPOD, lona Merc, Lamont's and Rax Restaurant. Don passed away March 10, 2002. When mom's health started to fail, she moved into the home of her grandson, David, and later into the home of her daughter Renee, where she remained until the time of her death.
Mom was a devout Christian, believing and trusting in the teachings of the Bible. It is this legacy she leaves her family. Mom loved to crochet and many family members reaped the rewards of this talent. She also donated several afghans to Lincoln Court Retirement Community for use in their bus. Her other hobbies included bowling, camping, fishing, playing pinochle, and watching baseball and NCIS on TV, but her favorite was spending time with her family.
Mom was preceded in death by both parents, one son (stillborn), her brother, Ralph Etters of Little Rock, AR, six sisters, Doris, Donna, Myra, Selena, and Eleanor, all of Pennsylvania, Genevieve, of Alaska, and her "little friend" Molly.
She is survived by
Sister, Gertrude Burden of Hershey, PA;
Daughters, Renee (Richard, deceased) Jones, and
Daughter, Sharon (Dennis) Howe, both of Idaho Falls,
Five grandchildren, Lisa (Bob) Walters, David (Liberty) Sholder, Shana Weinkauff, and Kristine (Brady) Young, all of Idaho Falls, Melissa (Burke) Adams of Portland, OR;
Twelve great grandchildren, Dylan, Harmony, Noelle, Kaytin, Kahmi, Kiler, Brendon, Sydney, Samantha, Alexandria, Jason and Tyson, and five great great grandchildren, Brayson, Channing, Taylor, Jayden, and Keeston.
The family wishes to express our sincere love and gratitude to Renee for the love and tender care given to Mom, especially these past few months. We also wish to thank Hospice of Eastern Idaho for the care given to Mom, especially these past weeks.
