Rigoverto Garcia Gonzales, 89, of Idaho Falls, passed away on June 12, 2015, at Teton Post Acute Care and Rehabilitation Center surrounded by his loving family. He was under the care of Onesource Hospice.
He was born January 4, 1926, in Menard, Texas to Nasario Gonzales and Margarita Garcia Gonzales, the second oldest of six brothers. Rigo grew up and attended schools in Menard and as a youth he enjoyed boxing and playing baseball. At an early age, he worked hard for his father as he learned the art of sheep shearing. He sheared sheep in Texas, Colorado, Nebraska, and Idaho.
In 1948, he was married briefly to Celia Deanda. They had one son and later divorced. On December 30, 1950, he married the love of his life, Martina Gonzales, in Menard, Texas and they were married for 62 years. Together they had three sons and four daughters. He picked potatoes and was a potato loader in Texas, Colorado, and Idaho. Rigo also picked cotton and later became a driver in Texas. In 1961, he moved to Moore, Idaho and in 1970, he moved to Arco. He worked at the Idaho National Laboratory (INL) at the warehouse and following his retirement moved to Idaho Falls.
Rigo was the foundation of his family and dearly loved all his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He loved to joke around and give all his grandkids nicknames. His laughter and jokes will be sorely missed by all. Among the many things he taught his kids was love of family, love for each other, love of God, and a strong work ethic which would allow them to do anything they wanted in life.
