RICHARD D. ZIMMERMAN
RIRIE, ID -- Richard Dennis Zimmerman, 57, of Ririe, originally of Chicago, Illinois, died February 10, 2002, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center.
He was born June 30, 1944, at Chicago, Illinois, to Irvin J. Zimmerman and Sarah May Cohen Zimmerman (now Sokolof). He grew up in Chicago and attended Bowen High School. He loved to help his grandmother in the kitchen and soon opened a pizzeria with his brother, Lynn. He went on to become a Chef in Detroit, Michigan, and even did a live cooking show on television. He was also very successful in the catering business. He moved to San Diego, California, and worked at a restaurant called The Spot for several years. Then it was off to Laughlin, Nevada, to become head chef at the Edgewater Casino.
When he moved back to San Diego, California, he met Lisa Adams and they were married in Ririe on February 19, 1994. They moved to Denver, where Richard helped open the Italian Fisherman Restaurant. Next was the chef’s job at 7W Guest Ranch in Eagle, Colorado, then to Manchester Center, Vermont, to work for the owner of the ranch during the winter at his chain of Sirloin Saloon restaurants. Then he was Chef and manager of Coulter Lake Guest Ranch in Rifle, Colorado. When it was time to leave there, Richard & Lisa wanted to be closer to family, so back to Ririe they went. Richard worked at Fanatics Sports Grill in Idaho Falls.
He enjoyed golf and played every chance he got. When he couldn’t play, you could be sure he was watching the pros on TV. His other love was cooking. He said you had to love it in order to do it well and survive in the restaurant business.
